While we still wait for news on the future of The Equalizer, the universe still looks to be set to grow. The backdoor pilot starring Titus Welliver is on its way.

There isn’t long left to wait for the episode now. The Equalizer’s spin-off backdoor pilot will air this coming Sunday, April 20. After that, the series will focus on wrapping up storylines as this could be the end of the road.

What to expect in The Equalizer season 5, episode 16

The new episode will see the arrival of Samantha Reed, played by Juani Feliz. When her father goes missing, she needs the help of the only woman who can find anyone: Robyn McCall. This case is trickier than just a case of a missing person, though.

Her father, Elijah, played by Welliver, is a former CIA agent. There’s a good chance that Elijah and Robyn know each other since Robyn is also ex-CIA. It doesn’t sound like Robyn has any issue in teaming up with Samantha to find Elijah, and it’s going to lead to Samantha learning a little more about her family.

Her family history lies in the Dominican Republic. This is sure to open up the potential storyline for the spin-off should it be picked up to series.

The Equalizer spin-off is still not ordered to series

It’s important to tune into the backdoor pilot, as this series hasn’t yet been ordered to series. The CBS schedule is already packed, and there are a fair few pilots in contention.

If The Equalizer season 6 was happening, I would have said that we would likely see this show ordered to series. After all, CBS has been growing the franchises, whether it’s NCIS, FBI, and even The Big Bang Theory. It makes sense to bring a show in a trusted franchise. However, with The Equalizer not there to work as a lead-in, CBS could be on the fence and will want to see how the ratings do for this backdoor pilot to hold it up against other pilots, including the Matthew Gray Gubler-starrer Einstein.

The Equalizer airs on Sundays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
