One of the great things about The Hunting Party is that it’s turned the serial killers on their heads. What we think we know is anything but, and The Hunting Party season 2 episode 3 certainly proved that.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from The Hunting Party season 2 episode 3

The episode promised us a Robin Hood-type tale, based on the promo. However, we quickly got the opposite. While initially, this man killed the rich to make his statement, he became a rich man killing the poor, and that meant Bex and the team had to figure him out once more.

A reverse Robin Hood on The Hunting Party season 2 episode 3

Zack Lang was originally caught after killing the rich, sharing that he did it to make a social point. However, deep down, there was a reason he did it — and it all linked to his dad losing his job and his parents kicking him out.

Why did they kick him out? Well, he killed his cat and then “dressed it up” in his mother’s jewelry to “make it pretty.” Sure enough, that led to his parents becoming terrified of their son, and they decided to kick him out of the house. After that, Zack took his anger out on the rich, but things turned after he escaped the Pit.

While out, he found out that the crypto that he had bought in the past made him rich. He was now a millionaire, but he still had the urge to kill. When the team find the first victim, they find out that Zack is now killing the poor, but he’s dressing them up as the rich.

Zack — like so many serial killers on The Hunting Party — has some serious daddy issues. He created a “business” and “hired” multiple men who looked very similar to his dad. It turned out that Zack had actually created an easy pool of victims. He would promise them the chance to open an office in another state, and that would lead to him driving them off, dressing them up like his dad did (with the watch he refused to give up), and then kill them.

Bex had to get to Zack’s level in a way, sharing that she didn’t think Zack was crazy for hurting the cat. She told him that she understood he was a teenager and just needed help, which is all he needed now. That was enough to help stall things out and capture Zach, making it another serial killer back behind bars rather than dead.

Bex may have figured out who Lazarus really is

While the case played out, the team still looked into details of Lazarus. For her to be able to run a mile as fast as she did, it would have meant that she was on the track team at school. So, Bex looked through high school yearbooks, but it wasn’t going to help.

It was Morales who helped, suggesting that Bex look at old files that had been digitized. There would still be a record of them there, as all other records would be scrapped from the internet for Lazarus to create a new identity.

Sure enough, it works. Bex comes across files about a high school track star called Caitlin Taylor, the situation gets bigger. Lazarus was charged for murder. It was after that that she changed her name, and now a lot about her connection to the Pit makes sense. Is it possible that she went through some sort of treatment to become someone different? There’s a much bigger story here, and I appreciate the quick answers on The Hunting Party season 2.

The Hunting Party airs Thursdays at 10/9c on NBC.
