The Irrational season 2 fall finale did not disappoint. We got a case to unravel and some great personal development for various characters.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from The Irrational season 2, episode 7.
The episode focused on the world of K-pop—and I adore that Rizwan is a fan of K-pop—and some of the secrets that celebrities hold. When a fan of Yunni was found murdered, Alec and Rose had to figure out the truth. Did Yunni do it?
Yunni didn’t kill her fan in The Irrational season 2, episode 7
I think we all knew from the start that it wasn’t Yunni. The question was why she would be willing to go down for murder rather than giving up her alibi.
When Yunni explained that she was too scared to lose her label to tell the cops that her alibi was her ex-boyfriend, I had to scratch my head. I get it. She couldn’t lose the only income that was being sent back to her family in South Korea. That makes perfect sense. The problem is that going down for a murder she didn’t commit would also lead to her losing her record label, wouldn’t it?
And this is where I love the show. We’re constantly reminded that people do irrational things that they think is rational. Yunni did that in this moment.
Yunni ended up walking away from her label and her manager anyway. She’d gone independent within the episode, and so, all the points that were brought up became moot.
Also, Alec and Rose figured out that the manager was the murderer. Everything with the manager became just a small part of the episode, though. Yunni’s behavior had me intrigued, and it’s something The Irrational continues to do well. At least, for someone who is interested in psychology.
Rizwan and Phoebe test out a theory
Phoebe shared that she had done a study where people would call out misinformation when they saw it. That’s not the case, though, is it? Rizwan proves that only one person was willing to call out misinformation in a group situation. Maybe it’s because Phoebe’s study was anonymous. People tend to be willing to stand up against the grain when they know that they won’t be identified.
It was an interesting way to put theories to the test. I just don’t think that this study went anywhere in the way that other studies have done in other episodes.
Rose needs to stop trying to break up with Alec in The Irrational
My biggest pet peeve at this point is the Alec and Rose storyline. I like the two of them together. The fact that they said the L-word for the first time in this episode was adorable and sweet. However, Rose is getting on my nerves.
She is constantly looking for a reason to break up with Alec. She said, yet again, that things were too dangerous for him. If she doesn’t want to be with him, just come out and say it. Stop with the back and forth! This is getting tiring. I’d get it if something big had happened between them, but it hadn’t.
Marisa shows her own bias in The Irrational season 2 fall finale
Finally, we had some great moments between Kylie and Marisa. Considering in the first season we got that tense dinner moment where the two admitted that they lost each other in Marisa and Alec’s divorce, I love seeing that the two are making up for that in The Irrational season 2. Now that they work in the same building, it makes sense for them to turn to each other.
Marisa turns to Kylie about issues with her boss. It’s Kylie who points out that Marisa has a bias. Marisa hates the idea of the escape room, but Kylie points out that she only hates it because she didn’t come up with it herself. Marisa has to admit that, and once again, we see that these people aren’t perfect. They’re human.
The best thing is that they get to look into who they are. They have a chance to assess their behavior, and they listen to those calling them out on said behaviors. We could all do with doing something like this.
There wasn’t much of a cliffhanger for this fall finale. That’s okay, though. There are plenty of reasons to tune back in when the show returns.
The Irrational returns on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
