The Irrational is setting up the perfect reason for Phoebe to return to Alec's employ

Phoebe has realized that the grass isn't always greener, and sometimes it's because of the boss you had vs. the boss you now have. The Irrational is setting up the perfect reason for Phoebe to ask Alec for her job back.

When Phoebe got a new job at the end of The Irrational season 1, we wondered how long it would last. It looks like The Irrational season 2 is already setting up Phoebe’s return to Alec’s world of work.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Irrational season 2, episode 4.

It didn’t take long for us to understand why Phoebe wasn’t as in love with her new job as she should have been. By episode 2, we learned that Rachel was plagiarizing, and in episode 3, she turned to Marisa for advice on how to handle it.

Well, she took the advice. In episode 4, she turned Rachel in.

Will Rachel learn Phoebe ratted her out in The Irrational?

Now the question has become how Phoebe will end up losing her current job. There are a couple of storylines that the series could follow.

The first is that Rachel finds out that Phoebe was the one to rat her out. Rather than understand that Phoebe did the right thing, Rachel is sure to fire Phoebe. After all, she now can’t trust Phoebe to keep her (very morally wrong) secrets.

Then there’s the storyline of Rachel being fired. This would make Phoebe’s job obsolete.

Would Phoebe even want to continue working for Rachel?

Remember that this series focuses on behavior. It doesn’t seem rational that Phoebe would even want to keep working for Rachel after everything is said and done. Even if the job was open to her and Rachel realized she couldn’t fire Phoebe, wouldn’t Phoebe want to look for another place to work?

The problem is Phoebe may think that Alec wouldn’t take her back. Or maybe she’d be too embarrassed to ask for her job back. As Alec points out, we all tend to think rationally irrationally. The best thing is Alec wouldn’t be surprised about the way that Phoebe is thinking.

The show is opening the door for Phoebe to go back into Alec’s employ. It makes sense considering Phoebe has already mentioned how she misses Alec’s work, and she’s helped out in a couple of situations as well. All it takes is for Phoebe to have the courage to talk to Alec. Will she talk to Rizwan first?

The Irrational airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day with Peacock.
