After 10 episodes, the first season of The Rainmaker has come to an end. We watched as Rudy Baylor really learned the way of the law, going from a major law firm hopeful to an ambulance chaser with a heart.
As he found himself struggling with a world he didn’t expect to be in, he ended up taking a case that would capture the hearts of viewers. Dot Black was sure that her son didn’t die of an overdose, but what happened wasn’t what she expected.
If you know the book, you know how much of the story in The Rainmaker season 1 went. Now as the season has come to an end, eyes are on whether there will be a second season.

The Rainmaker is still on the bubble
It’s not surprising to hear that the legal drama is still on the bubble. It’s one of USA Network’s first shows since it came back to offering original scripted content, and that was a high bar for it to reach. Sadly, it hasn’t quite managed to get the support of critics, with it landing just a 50% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the viewers like it more.
Of course, in the end, it’s going to come down to viewership and whether USA Network sees enough people tuning in to warrant a second season. There also needs to be a storyline available, as both the movie and the book ended with a definitive ending that meant more to the story wasn’t needed.

Is The Rainmaker season 2 necessary?
With the way the first season ended, The Rainmaker season 2 may not even be all that necessary. Yes, there are some cliffhangers, but they’re cliffhangers that don’t need major answers to them.
The biggest one is what happens to Leo and his law firm. Sarah seems to think that everything will be okay, but Leo is going to have to face a lot of questions about Rosalie Sutton and everything that went down at the hospital and in that trial. There are other questions that are sure to come up surrounding Jane’s involvement in it all.
Then there’s the fact that clients are leaving the law firm. Of course, Keeley was one to walk away after they failed to help him win at court. Leo mentioned to Sarah that she was one of 10 clients or so that had walked away. That case was a big one and to lose against a first-year associate made it clear that maybe this firm was using money and illegal methods to get the job done.
So, with that, maybe there is a need for a second season, but a lot of the stories in The Rainmaker season 1 end rather neatly, with just some hope (or justice) for the future.
The Rainmaker is available to stream on USA Network.
