It was always clear that Leo was up to something with Bruiser taking on the case in The Rainmaker. Naturally, we delve a little into her past in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 3.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Rainmaker season 1, episode 3.

Bruiser is an enigma, and this series is certainly going to offer Lana Parrilla the chance to show off her skills. So far, she’s been a confident lawyer looking to help those who need it the most, but there’s a darker past to her.

We open the episode with Bruiser going to see her dad in prison. He has just a month left to serve, but Bruiser wants to know what he did and why he covered for Leo. He won’t say anything, but he does make it clear that he did it all to protect Bruiser.

Bruiser thinks back to the past in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 3

When the FBI show up at her office and ask about a Rosalie Sutton, she decides to pay Prince a visit. Rosalie was someone that she met, and this is the reason her dad was sent to prison. The police claim witness protection, but for some reason, the FBI is claiming that they believe Rosalie is dead. Prince makes it clear that he has no idea where she is.

As we flash to the past, Prince drops Rosalie off at Bruiser’s dad’s house. This woman has a baby, which now connects to the small baby rattle that Bruiser has. All Bruiser wants to know is what happened to this woman, as it’s clear that there’s something much bigger going on.

Rudy tackles his first deposition

While all this is going on, Rudy and Deck head to an AA meeting. Rudy is naturally uncomfortable, but they are there for research. The doctor who treated Donnie Ray attends the meetings, and this is where they’re able to get some information about him. At no point do they state that they’re not from Leo’s law firm, and to be honest, it’s not even like Rudy even has a chance to say something. It’s not their fault that the doc is willing to jump to conclusions.

This does lead into the deposition, which Rudy is able to prove that he’s capable of doing. He has memorized everything about Donnie Ray, and it does come in handy during and after the deposition of the doctor. Rudy is able to trip the doctor up by making him think he treated a patient when he didn’t, proving that he’s an unreliable witness.

At the same time, there’s a mention of specific flowers, Azaleas. They weren’t delivered for Donnie Ray considering he was admitted at 6 p.m. That means there was a roommate, and now they need to get to the bottom of that. Deck gets on the phone to all the florists as they’re not bound by HIPPA rules.

Deck and Rudy go to visit the roommate at the hospital

It takes some time, but Deck finally finds out which florist delivered the flowers and who they were delivered to. This leads him and Rudy to a frat house, where a college student doesn’t initially want to get involved. In the end, he wants to help Donnie Ray’s mom, and so, he shares who came in and out of the hospital room.

There’s one man in particular that stands out. He shares that a male nurse injected something into Donnie Ray’s IV bag and whispered “Don’t worry; I’m a nurse.” Creepy, right?

Very creepy, and it’s exactly what Pritcher has been whispering to everyone. So, it looks like he killed Donnie Ray in the same way he’s been killing lots of other people. If he gave Donnie Ray morphine, it would explain why it was in his system.

This isn’t a lot to work with right now, as there’s no proof. However, it’s a good start.

On another note, Rudy takes the bar and has to tell his mom the truth about no longer working at Leo’s law firm. He also learns from his mom that Hank has moved out.

Rudy has another storyline brewing, as well. He gives Kelly a ride home from work, but she wants dropping off a couple of blocks away. When she gets home, her husband isn’t there, so she stashes some more money in a box of tampons. A man like her husband is not looking in there. Where is her husband? He’s broken into Rudy’s, and he makes it clear that there will be trouble if he looks through the window at Kelly again.

Pritcher remains on the run and a danger to people

Now, if only everyone could find Pritcher. This man remains on the run, and he’s also a danger to people. He finally finds Jackie, who had turned to her ex for money and help getting out of dodge knowing that she was in trouble. When she gets a flat tire, she manages to get someone to stop to help her.

Of course, that someone is Pritcher, and Jackie knows that this is a sign of trouble. Sure enough, the end of The Rainmaker season 1, episode 3 sees Pritcher in a cabin somewhere with a passed out Jackie behind him.

Meanwhile, Bruiser meets with Leo, who notes that if she’s meeting with him then the FBI turning up has rattled her. However, she points out that she will encourage her client to settle for $80m. She knows that there’s a criminal conspiracy, which now makes sense why Leo wants to settle so quickly. The look on Leo’s face as Bruiser leaves him makes it clear that he knows that she’s onto something.

The Rainmaker airs on Fridays at 10/9c on USA Network.
