The situation with Kelly may be over, but there is still a bigger issue with Dot Black’s case. Part of that issue is Bruiser’s dad, who is out of prison in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 8.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Rainmaker season 1, episode 8.
We get back into Dot Black’s case in The Rainmaker, but there is also the topic of the FBI. It turns out that it wasn’t the FBI bugging Bruiser’s office, but can they prove who really did it to win?
Bruiser’s dad is released from prison in The Rainmaker season 1, episode 8
Just as we learned a couple of episodes ago, Bruiser’s dad is out of prison. Of course, there are a lot of questions about why he was in prison in the first place, and it doesn’t take us long to learn that it’s linked to Leo and the work he got Prince to do in the previous episode.
Bruiser’s dad quickly points out that the FBI didn’t bug the office, and Rudy corroborates that. You see, Rudy gets a visit from the FBI at the start of the episode while he’s working at the bar, sharing some information. It turns out that Rosalie’s body has been found, and the FBI is sure that Bruiser and her dad are involved in that.
The focus can’t stay on that for now, though, as the focus needs to be on Pritcher and Dot Black’s case. Bruiser catches her dad up on the case at hand, and he wants to know if it’s possible to win the case. If they win, there are a lot of people who will go after the hospital after this, since there are many others who died because of Pritcher.

Rudy and Deck go in search for Jackie
The best way to get answers is to find out what happened to Jackie. They need her to testify, so that they can win the case. That means they need to find out where Pritcher is holding her, and there is one way to do that. They can head to his court hearing and then follow him.
They follow him to a storage unit, but they’re not alone. Rudy thinks he sees Prince, and that’s confirmed when Prince forces Pritcher out of the building at gunpoint. Rudy and Deck realizes that Prince has been hired to clean up the evidence.
Does that mean Prince has taken Jackie, as well? We know that’s not the case. Instead, Jane went to the storage unit she’s held in to get her out. It’s an eye for an eye, since Jackie didn’t tell Pritcher that she was in the woods that night.

It’s time for the truth to come out in The Rainmaker
We get more details about the case of the past. Rosalie stayed with Bruiser for a couple of days before Prince and her dad were able to get her out of the country to Canada. Prince took her, and that’s the last Bruiser saw of Rosalie. Without a body, it was easy to think that she got away, but now there is a body and suddenly, Bruiser is an accomplice to murder.
It doesn’t matter that she knew nothing at the time. Nor does it matter that there’s still no proof.
It looks like everything is happening all over again, and it’s clear that Leo is running scared with the latest settlement offer of $1m, which Bruiser doesn’t take. Prince now has Pritcher, and they assume that he has Jackie, or that Pritcher has already killed Jackie.
Feeling like he’s missing something, Rudy keeps thinking everything over in the car on the way home. He realizes that Jackie’s ex likely know something, so he heads to the hospital where his wife is. Charlie isn’t there anymore, but Jackie is, and Rudy rushes after her. While he tells her that he believes her and wants to get justice for Donnie Ray, Jackie doesn’t believe him, and she rushes off.
At least, they know that Jackie is alive right now.

Sarah and Brad hook up
Meanwhile, when it comes to Sarah and Brad, there are tensions after their trip to London. Leo can sense that there is something between them, but he wants them to keep their personal life out of the office. Sarah is to run point on the case, as that’s what the client wants, and Leo knows that this could help them win.
That doesn’t stop the personal from getting in the way, though. As the two hook up, things take a turn in the bedroom. Brad places a hand on Sarah’s neck, and at first, it looks like it’s just a bit of fun. Then he doesn’t move as she clearly becomes concerned. There’s a dark look in his eye before he finally rolls off her. Is it possible that he wanted to kill her for getting the case?
Sure enough, it all comes out the next day in the office. Brad is jealous that Sarah has moved up as quickly as she has done, making it clear that she’s only at the firm because of her dad. I don’t think it’s surprising to anyone that Brad is a toxic male in The Rainmaker. After all, he has the name Brad!
It doesn’t stop Sarah from trying to do her job, though, and she preps the hospital CEO. There is a sweet moment between them, as he tries to offer some advice and they talk about whether people are defined by their worst decisions. Sarah even shows just how much she knows about him, which continues to impress him.
The aim is to get some answers about what really happened at the hospital. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that Keeley didn’t want anyone to find out about Pritcher because he didn’t want to lose everything he’d built. Keeley makes it clear that Sarah should walk away from the law firm and Leo, because he’s sure people are defined by their worst actions. Sarah isn’t going to do that, though. Her focus is on her career, even if it means doing bad things for bad people.
Sarah points out all the good that Keeley has done, and she wants him to share that good on the stand. Sarah will be there with him.

Prince decides to pretend nothing has happened
The next day, Rudy heads to the bar to speak to Prince. He decides to act as if nothing happened at the storage building, but Rudy is angry. He makes it clear that Pritcher was the person they needed for the case.
When Rudy points out that he wasn’t the only one there that night, Prince shares that he’s not worried about Deck. He knows that Deck will turn a blind eye, and now he needs Rudy to do the same thing.
Rudy is one step ahead of the game, realizing that he has no choice. As Bruiser’s dad makes it clear that they’re dropping the case and that Dot signed with him and not Bruiser, Rudy shares that this is no longer the case. Dot signed with Rudy and fired Bruiser’s firm an hour before, and now Rudy is handing in his resignation.
On top of that, Bruiser fires Deck with a smile, giving him the chance to continue the case with Rudy. There’s no way that Bruiser wanted to drop the case with everything that she knows now, so she’s more than happy to support it anyway she can.
There’s also a chance at closure for her with Rosalie. Thinking back to when Rosalie dropped her daughter off at her sister’s house, Bruiser goes back to leave the teething ring to say goodbye.
The Rainmaker airs on Fridays at 10/9c on USA Network.
