Rudy and Leo go head-to-head in court in The Rainmaker season 1 finale. Who will come out on top?
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Rainmaker season 1, episode 10.
From the beginning, we knew that The Rainmaker could only end with Rudy and Leo going up against each other in court. We didn’t even need the book for that. It did take a turn, when Rudy made a decision that would change the trajectory of the case.

Rudy turns to Bruiser for help in The Rainmaker season 1 finale
At the end of The Rainmaker season 1, episode 9, Rudy was left with a gift from Prince. He’d held Pritcher down in his basement, allowing Rudy the one thing he needed for his case. Of course, there was a problem of Rudy now knowing that Pritcher had been abducted, and he called Bruiser and Deck for help with this situation.
They decided it was right to go to Pritcher’s lawyer. Together, they could encourage a plea deal so that Pritcher could testify on the stand, and that’s exactly what happened. Pritcher shared everything that he did, from killing Donnie Ray Black to killing other people. He went into detail.
Leo took the cross, which led to Pritcher lashing out. Literally. As Leo brought up Pritcher’s mom—who he still says he didn’t kill—Pritcher climbed over the witness stand and attacked Leo. I still don’t feel like we got closure on Pritcher’s mom in the way that we did in the book, but we’ll roll with it for now. It wasn’t really about her.

Rudy changes the course of the case completely
With that going a little sideways and the questioning of Keeley not quite working out in full, Rudy decides he wants to put Leo on the stand. Again, this doesn’t quite go the way he wants, but it does change the trajectory of the case.
In all his ego-boosting moments, Leo forgot that once he went on the stand, he wouldn’t be able to represent his client. He had to sit in the peanut gallery with everyone else, leaving the closing statement to Sarah, and despite everything that he said to Sarah, he knew that she wasn’t likely going to do this as confidently as he would. She just doesn’t have the experience.
At the same time, Leo was battling with Brad, who he threw under the bus with the FBI. Well, things are about to take a turn.

Who wins the case in The Rainmaker?
Of course, the jury sides with the little people. They find the hospital libel, and the door is now open for a criminal case. We learn that Keeley has to step down as CEO of the hospital, but that’s not all that happens.
Leo has the FBI and the police wanting to speak with him, about both the Rosalie Sutton case and now the hospital case. There’s a lot for him to deal with, and yet, Sarah shows her villainous colors. She remains with Leo’s law firm, despite everything crumbling around him.

Meanwhile, Rudy has become the most sought-after lawyer in the area. It’s not surprising that he went up against the hospital and won. He also has friends in Bruiser, Deck, and Dot. In fact, he decided to buy the bar since the bank took it over, and shared that he wants to turn it into a restaurant. It’s time for Dot to share her skills with the world.
As for Dot, she decides she’s donating a lot of the money that she has won. She’s also adopting another dog to join the one she currently has, which sounds just right for this kind and caring woman. I’m so glad we see it work out for her, and that she got answers about her son.
Meanwhile, Deck turns to Rudy to share that he’s going to sit the bar again. Their relationship has come a long way, and we get to see Rudy offer Deck the coin his brother gave him for good luck. All Deck needs to do is calm his nerves.

With that, it seems like everyone gets the ending they deserve. Even Brad and Pritcher, who end up in the same prison together, standing on opposite sides of the room, clearly do not fit in and may have to team up to protect themselves. But can you trust people whom you went up against?
