When Apple TV+ announced that it wouldn’t release The Savant when it was supposed to, it came with a disappointing reason. Apple TV+ decided that the current situation of the world was a reason to delay the show.
Of course, Jessica Chastain clapped back at the streamer, and I agree with her. Right now, The Savant is a show that’s needed, as long as it’s done right, and the fact that Chastain is involved, I feel like it’s going to have been done right.

The Savant highlights exposing threats
One of the elements of The Savant is focused on an in vestigtor who makes it her mission to expose extremists in online communities. The aim is to stop domestic terrorism before it can even happen, and isn’t that something that we should all want? It doesn’t matter which side of the political leanings you may be on. There are extremists on both sides, and all extremelists are dangerous.
Now, as Time notes, most of domestic terrorism in the U.S. is at the hands of right-wing extremists, but that doesn’t stop left-wing extremists from acting. And considering the current state, isn’t it the right time to highlight the dangers and the way that these terrorists can group together online?
On top of that, this is a series based on a true story. In 2019, a Cosmopolitan article came out about a former Marine and police officer working for the Anti-Defamation League to find misogynist white supremacists about to commit violence. The identity of “The Savant” was never revealed, but it’s not hard to believe that someone could do this. There are vigilantes online all the time.
So, with this, it’s clear that this story is needed. There was no reason for Apple TV+ to postpone the release of The Savant.
When is the right time considering the state of America?
We’ve got to ask when is the right time for The Savant to be released? This decision was made two weeks after the murder of Charlie Kirk. But before that, we’ve had the Jan. 6 insurrection, the attempted kidnapping of Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and even the assassination of Melissa Hortman.
These have all happened over the last handful of years, and they’re not alone. There have been many other attacks and threats, so when is the right time if the current state suggests that it’s not?
There is no “right time.” If the release was set for the day or two after, I could understand. If it directly involved Charlie Kirk or it was linked to the assassination in some way, I could understand. There have been shows pre-empted due to situations that are somewhat linked to the story being told, but this isn’t one of them.
This is about stopping domestic terrorism, and surely, that’s something that both sides of the political spectrum should want, right?
The Savant will come to Apple TV+ at a yet to be determined date.
