Amanda Knox never stood a chance when it came to the court of public opinion. With everyone against her, the publications heard what they wanted, and we see that in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 3.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 3.
During the latest episode, Amanda is arrested and subjected to more blood, DNA, and STI tests. That’s when she’s given the news that she’s tested positive for HIV, and she needs to make a list of all her sexual partners to be able to alert them.
This is where the publications create a persona for Amanda Knox that the world is set to believe. She’s portrayed as a vixen, as a sexually active young woman who is sadistic in her nature. And yes, this is based on true events.

The publications ran with the ‘Foxy Knoxy’ nickname
It’s always hard when the evidence is against you to prove your innocence. However, in this case, the evidence wasn’t against Amanda Knox. It was the police who were hellbent on proving that Amanda did it, along with her boyfriend, Raffaele. So, they needed the public to be on their side to push for a hasty trial, and that led to the creation of the nickname “Foxy Knoxy.”
Women who are viewed as loose with their sexuality are considered vixens. They quickly become the villains of the story. After all, if they were willing to sleep with multiple men, then wouldn’t they be willing to commit heinous crimes?
Men are allowed to sleep with as many women as they want. It’s only the women who are given awful nicknames for enjoying something that is human. Of course, the minute people read that Amanda was sexually active, more people would turn against her. It didn’t even matter if she was actually guilty or not.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox shines a light on the realities of the case
What the publications didn’t get to hear was how Amanda had been told she had a virus that she didn’t actually have. It was all a ploy, with her being told she had HIV so that she would list her sexual partners. From there, the prison guards could ransack her room to find her prison journals, leaking them to the press.
Could you imagine how she felt as this all happened? Amanda’s world had already been turned upside down in a foreign country. She was already being bombarded with questions in Italian and being demanded to answer in Italian as well, a language that she wasn’t fluent in. Now her journals were being used against her after she was told she had HIV.
And it’s not like there was an apology for that “mistake.” It was all to shake her internally so that she would mess up again. While the publications painted her as “Foxy Knoxy,” it was impossible for me to overlook the fact that she was a young woman in a foreign country. It could happen to anyone, and barely anybody stopped to think about who Amanda really was outside of what the media told us.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox airs on Wednesdays on Hulu.
