We’re just two episodes into The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, and it’s already a clear sign of how this case was so publicized and botched at the same time. In fact, the police had a clue that would lead them to the right person, and they ended up disregarding it.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox has reached the point of Amanda being arrested for murder. We have her “confession,” and we also find out the situation that led to her accusing her boss, Patrick, being implicated in the murder.

Of course, it seems like the clue in Meredith’s room could connect to Patrick, but it wasn’t him. In fact, Amanda has been convicted of slander over this moment in the police station. Yet, the clue is the important part of the puzzle.

The police found the hair of a Black man in Meredith’s room

During The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 2, the police confirm that they found the hair of a man in Meredith’s room, and not just any man. They found the hair of a Black man, leading to suspicions of a few people we’ve seen in the series so far. Could it have been one of the boys from the flat below? Maybe it could have been Patrick, Amanda’s boss.

However, the boys from the flat below tell the same story. There was a man who played basketball who knew Meredith. He only went by the name The Baron, and the police did go out searching for him, but they came up empty-handed.

Rather than look into this clue any further, the police decided to put further pressure on Amanda to get her to confess to the murder. Yet, the clue was right there.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox points us to the real killer

After Amanda’s arrest and conviction, the police ended up finding Rudy Guede in Germany, where he had gone just days after the murder. It’s no wonder he wasn’t at the basketball court when they went to find him. He was extradited from Germany and put on trial for murder, and he opted for a fast-track trial.

However, Amanda and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele, were still tried for murder and found guilty. This is despite Rudy saying, initially, that Amanda wasn’t at the apartment when he killed Meredith.

Eventually, Amanda and Raffaele were acquitted, but they were retried and then acquitted once more. Meanwhile, Rudy gained a reduced sentence, eventually being released for good behavior.

The entire case is one that involves bad police work and assumptions, along with the court of public opinion getting involved. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox has already told us of the clue that links to Rudy, and now we watch as the police figure it out.

The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox airs on Wednesdays on Hulu.
