Over the course of seven episodes, we watched how Amanda Knox’s life was turned upside down. In The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox series finale, we finally see why Amanda headed to Italy to face her accusor.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox season 1, episode 8.
After being acquitted once and for all for the murder of Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox starts to rebuild her life. However, there are questions that she has about the events that led to all of this.
There is only one person who can answer those questions: Dr. Mignini, himself. He was once a man she viewed as a monster, but she starts to see that maybe he’s just a complicated and flawed man. It’s a lot of grace to give the person who purposefully fitted evidence to suit his own ideas of the case rather than taking everything into account.

How Amanda and Mignini crossed paths again in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox
You would think that the last thing Amanda would ever want to do is head back to Italy. Yes, in the series premiere of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, we know that’s what happened. She went to the church of the priest who helped her throughout her time in the Italian prison where she could meet Dr. Mignini.
How did that happen, though? What was the buildup, and who wanted to get in touch with whom? Well, it turned out that Amanda was the one to write ot Mignini first. She wrote to him four times before he finally answered her.
Mignini doesn’t apologize for anything that he’s done. Instead, he views himself as Maigret, the fictional detective who manages to piece puzzles together based on scraps of evidence. However, this isn’t a world of fiction, Mignini, and there are real lives that are at risk here. Mignini admits that he created a narrative that may or may not have held up in court, and he didn’t really care about the consequences.

Mignini and Amanda meet in person
As we know from the premiere, Mignini and Amanda did meet in person. Amanda is able to tell Mignini to his face what his story did to her. She shares all of the humiliation that she felt, and the lost years of her life. This isn’t something that just affects her, but affects the people around her.
Mignini isn’t all that regretful. At least, not about the way he twisted the tale. He still thinks that he was doing the right thing to get justice for Meredith Kercher’s family, and he goes on to say that “there are two truths.”
Sure enough, in a lot of conversations, there are two truths to a situation. However, in this, there was only one truth. That Amanda Knox was innocent, and that Mignini created her into a monster to get the court of public opinion on his side.
While in Italy, Amanda also visits Raffaele. While the two are a little stilted in their conversation, there are some tender moments. We know in real life that the two talk now and then, but they are no longer in touch in the way that they once were. Their lives have moved on.
We get to see how Amanda has helped herself move on. She visits the Perugia house from afar, remembering Meredith and the time there. Realizing that she can’t change how people view her, she decides that she’s done arguing about the whole thing. In other words, “let them.”

What happened to Dr. Mignini?
The end of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox takes us back to Dr. Mignini, who enters a church confessional while sobbing. It’s not all that clear what he is sobbing over, as we know from statements since that he still doesn’t completely think that he was wrong on Amanda being in the house at the time of the murder.
However, is it possible that he feels guilt for bringing her down in the way that he did when there wasn’t the evidence there? Is it possible that he feels guilt toward Meredith and her family for never really getting all of the answers? The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox leaves a lot open and unsaid, reminding us that while the story seems to be done, there are still questions lingering.
