In The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 5, we watched as the prosecution played out a simulation of how Amanda, Raffaele, and Rudy committed the murder of Meredith Kercher. Did that really happen in the court case, though?
Caution: There are some SPOILERS for The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 5.
I don’t really class the use of the simulation as a spoiler in the episode, because we all know how the trial played out. If you didn’t know how it played out, there are plenty of reports from the 2009 trial that tell you what happened.

Yes, the simulation was used in Amanda Knox’s trial
Sure enough, the use of the simulation that we saw in The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 5 really happened. This was a chance for the prosecution to show the people in the court, the press, and the jury what they thought happened. There’s one thing to explain it in words, but it’s another thing to show it.
The simulation gave everyone a look at how the prosecution believed the three could get into the apartment and hold Meredith down. It went on for 20 minutes to give a full detailed account, and yes, it was uncomfortable for many to watch.
Of course, the case was already stacked against Amanda and Raffaele, but this video may have swayed the jury to quickly come back with a guilty verdict.
Yes, just like in the episode, the video was shown during the closing speeches, a time when no new evidence should be introduced. On top of that, this wasn’t even evidence, but a fantasy of what could have happened.

There are questions over the video from The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox
Since the case, there has been an audit into the use of public funds to create the 20-minute video. According to ABC News, Umbria, an audit company for the court, looked into whether the video was necessary, as it used up $240,000 in public funds to create.
Naturally, at the time, it was believed to be useful. Then in an appeal, the verdict was overturned and Amanda and Raffaele were released. If it turned out that there was so much against the prosecution to get the verdict, was the animation needed?
Giuliano Mignini and Manuela Comodi are both being accused of wasting the funds; however, I can’t find anything to say how this audit turned out.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox episode 5 just gave us a small look into the brutal simulation, but it was a real part of the case. It ended with a graphic photo of Meredith Kercher, which you have to question was even necessary in this case.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox airs on Wednesdays on Hulu.
