The Act (2019)

Starring Joey King and Patricia Arquette, The Act follows the true story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. This is a story that has fascinated and shocked the public ever since a 2016 Buzzfeed article detailed the crime, the same article that helped inspire the series.

At its core, this stranger-than-fiction story is about a toxic mother-daughter relationship, which ultimately culminates in a murder. This series is a must-watch for any true crime fan and can be found on Hulu or Disney+.

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders (2017)

While this may not be your typical Law & Order series, there's no question that Dick Wolf knows how to tell a crime story. The Menendez murders, and the brothers that stood trial for killing their parents, was a case that had captured America's attention in the early '90s, and this series takes you deep inside that famous court case.

Like the Amanda Knox series, True Crime will have you looking at this famous event with a different perspective, and questioning what's right and where there may be some moral grey areas to wrestle with. Streaming on Peacock, it's a great option for your watch list if you love courtroom drama with your true stories.

The Staircase (2022)

In 2001, Michael Peterson was accused of murdering his wife after she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase, leading to a documentary on Netflix and this true crime drama from HBO. Starring Colin Firth and Toni Collette, The Staircase explores the circumstances surrounding Kathleen Peterson's death and the subsequent murder trial.

Like Amanda Knox, Michael Peterson claimed innocence, and will have you wondering how on point the investigation really was. Definitely worth a watch, along with the 13-part documentary of the same name, to really dive deep into this case.

When They See Us (2019)

In 1989, a woman was sexually assaulted in Central Park in New York, and five young men were arrested for the crime, who became known as the "Central Park Five." This Netflix series takes us into the years long battle that these men had to fight for their innocence.

When it comes to miscarriages of justice, few stories come close to this one, and the emotional roller coaster will have you glued to every second. This was a series not just for true crime fans, but for everyone to watch and gain a better understanding of what took place, and what these men experienced.

The Girl From Plainview (2022)

Starring Elle Fanning as Michelle Carter, The Girls from Plainview tells the story of the well-known texting-suicide case that had many people issuing judgment on. Beyond the case itself, we also get to see what happened in the events that led to Conrad Roy's death, and the relationship he had with Michelle.

Similar to Amanda Knox, this Hulu series may have you considering this trial in a different light than you may have before. It sparked debate among viewers who questioned whether Michelle Carter deserved her conviction of involuntary manslaughter or should she have been sent for mental health help. A question you'll have to consider carefully during your binge-watch.
