ABC isn’t home to many crime dramas, but the ones that it does have are excellent. Whether we’re watching harrowing saves or quirky plots, there are plenty of shows to check out. In some great news, all of the ABC crime dramas from the 2024–2025 season were renewed, but that doesn’t mean all are coming back in fall 2025.
The good news is that while these returning shows aren’t necessarily returning in the fall, there is some good that comes from midseason returns. They’ll still have almost a full season of episode, very much like this year.
This is only covering the returning shows. There will be a new series that you’ll want to check out in fall 2025.

Crime dramas returning: 911
In some exciting news, 911 was renewed for a ninth season. When you look at the linear ratings, this wasn’t all that surprising, as the show is one of the top shows on the network. It does have a huge budget, though, which could work against its favor in the future. So, we’ll take as many season of it as possible.
911 season 9 will focus on a new beginning for the 118, after the traumatic death of Bobby Nash. It looks like Chimney will become the new captain of the 118, as he made it clear that Buck couldn’t transfer house and Eddie couldn’t go back to Texas after taking the lead on a call. Athena has put her dream house with Bobby up for sale, and we’ll see what is in store for her as she moves forward in life.
911 will remain on Thursdays, kicking off TGIT at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Crime dramas not returning: The Rookie
Now, there is some good news in the fact that The Rookie is renewed, but it won’t return in fall 2025. This isn’t that surprising when you consider the seventh season also didn’t get a fall slot. It did get 18 episodes, though, and the midseason premiere was strategic. This allows for a straight run through to a May finale date.
The Rookie season 8 will need to cover a lot from the season 7 finale, which ended with the release of Monica and the reveal that Oscar is still on the loose. Will these two villains team up to cause issues for the LAPD? It certainly looks likely, but Monica clearly has the brains for a long game.

Crime dramas returning: High Potential
ABC had a great hit with High Potential, so it wasn’t surprising to see it renewed for a second season. The series brought something different to the crime drama landscape through the use of Morgan’s character. She isn’t a cop, but she’s wonderful at solving crimes because of her high IQ. At the same time, she’s not always perfect, and she doesn’t always know the way to run things by the book to avoid evidence from being thrown out.
High Potential season 2 will bring a new villain to the mix. At the end of the first season, the cops and Morgan found themselves with a tricky case, and it turns out that someone was thinking just the way Morgan does. He is ready to play a game with her, but is she ready for him? And will Morgan get answers about Roman after all these years?
The series is set to return on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

Crime dramas not returning: Will Trent
Finally, we have Will Trent, which is definitely coming back for a fourth season. Just like The Rookie, it is being held for the midseason, so we’ll get it back in 2026. It’s going to be worth the wait, and at least it means that the 18-episode season will get to run straight through to May for finale season.
Will Trent season 4 will have a lot of questions to answer. The first is whether two characters will survive after their collapses and medical issues of the third season finale. Then we need to know how things will work out with Angie and Will now that Angie is pregnant (and not with Will’s baby).
