911 season 9 episode 9 certainly had us worried about Harry Grant. The promo made it clear that he would fall from the ladder during training. The question for all of us was whether his career would end before it got started.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911 season 9 episode 9
The episode focused on two main storylines, and Harry’s turned into something the promo didn’t have us thinking it would. It didn’t take long to find out what happened to Harry in the fall. The story was all about the aftermath.

What happened to Harry after the fall on 911 season 9 episode 9?
We quickly saw that Harry didn’t have a huge fall. There was a pavilion just under the window, and that caught Harry’s fall. So, in the end, he came out with a mild concussion at the most. He had to take a couple of days off, and then he would be ready to go straight back into training. This wasn’t going to push him back.
When he did go back, the real aftermath happened. Harry had to do the ladder again, and that led to him freezing, as he thought about Bobby’s funeral. May’s words from the episode had gotten into his head. There was a chance that Athena could have been planning another funeral.
It’s understandable why Harry froze. Not only did he need to face something that could have taken his life again, but he had to do it knowing that this job had already taken the life of someone important to Athena. Could he allow that to happen again?

Harry turned to the one person who could help: Buck
It’s been wonderful seeing Buck be the one to mentor Harry in the way that Bobby mentored him. Naturally, Buck was the one Harry turned to when it came to dealing with the fear of getting back onto the ladder.
It wasn’t really the fear of it happening again on the ladder. Every time he thought about the job, he thought about Bobby and the funeral Athena had to plan. Would it be fair on Athena to put her through that again?
Athena and May were in his head, and it meant that he couldn’t do the job that he felt a calling for. In the end, only Buck could help, as he could tell Athena straight — in a respectful way — about how Harry was feeling, and it led to a beautiful moment between mother and son. In the end, Athena realized that she couldn’t hold Harry back, and so, she made sure he got over his fear of the ladder and graduated from the fire training academy.
Harry’s career has only just gotten started, and it’s going to be with the 118!
911 airs on Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC and streams the following day on Hulu.
