High Potential centers on a brilliant single mom and how she helps the LAPD with her talents. As the former cleaning lady at the precinct, Morgan Gillory, played by Kaitlin Olson, notices something and changes the murder board in the bullpen. This infuriates Detective Adam Karadec, played by Daniel Sunjata. However, once Morgan is able to explain how she arrived at her conclusion, she is offered a job by Captain Soto as a consultant.
As fate would have it, Morgan is paired with Karadec. Naturally, his penchant for following rules clashes wildly with her energy and scatter-shot approach. Often, Morgan skips from one track to another and doesn't seem concerned about the rules. This opposites-attract set-up makes me hopeful for a love connection between Karadec and Morgan. And yes, I know that Morgan went on a date with the handsome janitor, Tom, played by JD Pardo. While I do like their flirty chemistry, I have a feeling that something isn't as it appears.
During the high-stakes fall finale, the precinct was taken hostage, and Morgan was inside with her daughter, Ava. She had to work with Karadec, who was on the outside, to find the correct suspect. During the most recent installment of High Potential, season 1, episode 8, titled "Obsession," Karadec and Morgan worked all night at his apartment. They tried to solve the case over some Chinese food and bonding. While Morgan shared that she had a date with Tom, Karadec shared something surprising about himself.
Why Morgan and Karadec are High Potential's match made in heaven
I really love the chemistry between Karadec and Morgan. They have great banter, and they are starting to understand how each other works now. When Karadec revealed that a painting in his apartment was a gift from his ex-fiancee, it was a big revelation. The couple split up because of Karadec's dedication to his job. The honesty, and moment of understanding between Morgan and Karadec, seem like it is laying the groundwork for a romantic relationship down the line.
Recently, Sunjata spoke with TV Insider, teasing Morgan and Karadec's future. And it certainly made me happy.
"But I think that they clearly are putting that undertone in there and wanting to move it in that direction. And Todd Harthan our showrunner, and Drew Goddard, the creator of the show, and of course Kaitlin, I think that they’re going to be very economical in how they tease out the will-they-won’t-they. I don't think that having these two characters jump into a relationship or fling would be satisfying for viewers. After all, if their relationship turns romantic, what will happen to their working partnership? Their banter is one of the best parts of the series, and seeing the different way that they both work. Hopefully, the showrunners will ease into a romance slowly and see it built towards something meaningful.
