Why Vo isn't the new Fly Team leader in FBI: International explained

As much as we would love to see Cameron Vo take over from Scott Forrester as the new team leader of the Fly Team, it's not happened. She explained why in the FBI: International season 4 premiere.

We would love to see Cameron Vo in the lead in FBI: International. She has the skillset needed, but it’s just not happened yet.

Caution: We have some minor spoilers from the FBI: International season 4 premiere.

The episode introduced us to Wes Mitchell, who turned out to know Vo. In fact, Wes trained Vo in Seattle, so they have a long history that is a positive one. When Vo invited Wes to join the Fly Team, it wasn’t all that surprising.

The current team leader who has assumed the position since Forrester isn’t the best option for the team. He’s more interested in the photo opportunity rather than doing the work. Wes wanted to know why Vo wasn’t the new team leader, just like the rest of us.

Vo isn’t qualified for the position in FBI: International season 4 premiere

During the premiere, Vo explained that as much as she would love the job, she isn’t qualified for it. She needs to be at least a GS-14 to even get the chance. She would also need to be promoted to Supervisory Special Agent.

Without those two positions, there will always be others who get that job. The good news is Vo wants to take on this job. She sees herself as a supervisor someday, so this gives us hope that if the show continued we could eventually see it happen for her.

The show has kept this rather realistic. I did say that Vo had only just moved up to being second in charge, so it was difficult to see her move up to leader so quickly. I'm glad the series explained it, though.

Wes isn’t going to easily slip into the team, though. Smitty doesn’t like the way Wes handles cases. He is hot-headed in the field, and he is more than willing to push the suspects to the brink. However, Vo thinks that Wes is what the team needs because he is dedicated to the job and not the photo ops. FBI: International season 4, episode 2 is going to be a great test to see how things play out.

FBI: International airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
