There's a disappointing update about the future of one Canadian crime drama on The CW

Wild Cards has been renewed in Canada but not in the United States.

The CW hasn’t decided a lot for the 2025-2026 TV season. In fact, we don’t even have a fall schedule for what was one of the Big 5 networks. It’s almost like it’s being forgotten about now.

Yet, it does have some great shows, and one of them is the Canadian crime drama Wild Cards. This series has already been renewed in Canada, and yet the U.S. network is still making decisions. Things aren’t looking great, and it doesn’t make sense.

CBS has renewed Wild Cards for more than one season

Back in May 2025, the Canadian public broadcaster, CBC, confirmed that Wild Cards would continue. And it wouldn’t just continue for one more season. Not only will get get Wild Cards season 3, but we’ll also get season 4.

Filming of the third season is set to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia in August 2025. That makes sense as this is more of a midseason series, even north of the border.

The CW hadn’t made a decision at the time, but we pretty much thought that the network would continue to air the show. Well, TVLine has recently heard crickets about the renewal. In this case, no news could be good news, but we’re not too sure.

I ask and I ask, and… no updates. (Then again, they haven’t said no, per se. Take the temporary win!)

Wild Cards season 2 didn’t perform as well as season 1

When we take a look at TV Series Finale for the linear ratings, things weren’t great for the second season on The CW. Compared to the first season, it dropped 30% in the demographic figures and 8% in the total audience. For The CW, the demo is certainly the more important figure of the two in linear ratings.

It wasn’t the largest drop, though. All American dropped 43% in the demo and 17% in the total audience and was renewed. This should give us some hope, but there is a catch. All American was renewed for a final season, and it comes from the pre-Nexstar days with different contractual rules.

While Wild Cards does sit in fourth out of all shows (and third if you count the fact that Superman & Lois was final seasoned last year), it’s not strong enough to see it breeze through a renewal. However, the show is cheaper than The CW buying its own, so there is a chance that we’ll get the third season and it’ll be the fourth season that remains on the line.

At least, things for Wild Cards are looking better than Good Cop/Bad Cop, which was at the very bottom of the demo for the 2024-2025 TV season for The CW.

Wild Cards is available to stream on The CW App.
