Will Trent ended its third season with a shocking finale that leaves the fate of two characters up in the air. What does it mean for Will Trent season 4?

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for the Will Trent season 3 finale

Will Trent’s third season finale opened with Will still dealing with the discovery that local sheriff Caleb (Yul Vazquez) was his biological father. Meanwhile, Angie was fretting over finding out she was pregnant by her doctor boyfriend, Seth.

But everyone’s personal problems took a backseat when a homegrown terrorist group spread a biotoxin around Atlanta. Seth’s hospital was overwhelmed by patients, including Nico. Luckily, Atlanta is home to the CDC who had an antitoxin with Faith and Ormewood protecting a truck carrying it.

And that’s when all hell broke loose.

First, the GBI was invaded by the mailita, demanding their leader be released and took Amanda hostage. That had Angie doing her best John McClane impression, sneaking around to fight them off. Meanwhile, Faith and Michael were ambushed by the terrorists but, with the very unlikely aid of a pack of teenage girl champion archers, managed to survive.

Oh, and during all of this, Will and Caleb were on an odd trip to a house in the woods, holding off more terrorists while bonding over Caleb never knowing Will even existed. The pair then helped Faith and Ormewood transport the antitoxin to the hospital.

Who was in danger in the Will Trent season 3 finale?

The GBI hostage crisis ended with Angie managing to take down most of the terrorists. But in the battle, Amanda took a bullet in the chest and was seen going down. The rest of the team met at the hospital, where they were told Amanda was out of surgery, but the next 48 hours would decide if she lived or died.

Having worried about miscarrying, Angie found her baby was alive and healthy. The entire ordeal made Angie decide she wanted to keep the kid and be a good mom. Seth was happy, while Will seemed sad at his old friend moving on, but decided it was best.

But in the final moments of the episode, Ormewood was at home when he collapsed from a seizure, indicating his brain tumor had caught up to him.

Those were two huge cliffhangers, so what does it mean for next year?

Who’s surviving for Will Trent season 4?

Speaking to TV Insider, co-creators Liz Heldens and Daniel T. Thomsen talked about the finale and all its amazing elements. On Amanda’s fate, Heldens said, “I mean, we’re still creatively figuring everything out, but it did seem there was a nice symmetry to Will’s biological father coming into his life and then threatening his surrogate mother.”

The pair is coy on whether or not Amanda survives. They also said they were proud of turning Oremwood into “an action hero” in the finale and how this brush with death may shake him up. Thomsen stated, “I think that what we’re excited about going forward is if all the stuff that we just saw as Ormewood’s brightest moments goes away, or it changes in some way, how does he react to that? What does he discover about himself that can be new, that can make him feel special going forward?”

Jake McLaughlin had his own talk with TV Insider on how he’s not sure of Michael’s fate, but hopeful it gives him more to do.

“I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t. They won’t tell me what’s happening next season. I think [Michael will] be okay-ish… but like I said, we just ended the season, so I don’t know what my destiny is going to be, what’s in store for me … maybe the road to recovery, maybe not. I don’t know.”

What makes the cliffhangers worse is that Will Trent season 4 won’t be arriving on ABC until 2026. So we’ll have to wait much longer to find out the fates of Amanda and Michael and hope both characters pull through for the acclaimed series.

Will Trent season 4 premieres on ABC in 2026.
