After giving a script commitment to an untitled female FBI drama, FOX is considering another TV crime drama. Live will see a This Is Us star executive produce.

With the current success of Prodigal Son, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that FOX is looking at TV crime dramas. They don’t slow down and procedurals can now be told in all sorts of ways. After offering a script commitment to an untitled female FBI drama, FOX has now given a script commitment to Live with a This Is Us star executive producing.

Live will be based on a Korean drama of the same name, according to the exclusive report from Deadline. This certainly bodes well if it follows anything like the ABC medical drama, The Good Doctor. And with a This Is Us star behind it, there’s a lot of hope.

Who is the This Is Us star? It’s none other than Sterling K. Brown, who has been making waves everywhere from Godzilla to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Not bad for a guy who is remembered fondly for a recurring guest star stint in the early years of Supernatural and for his role as an Army husband in Army Wives.

Live hasn’t been picked up to series just yet. We’re still in the script stages of pilot season. However, it looks like FOX is deeply interested. The script commitment comes with a penalty, which means that if the show isn’t picked up to series there will be some financial hits for the company. These hits could be for a certain number of scripts or a set amount if not picked up to series even if the pilot script isn’t filmed.

What is Live going to be about?

Live will be a gritty but grounded exploration of six unsung heroes within the Washington DC PD. All six are interconnected in some way, although Darcell Murray will be the main lead. Darcell is described as a “young African-American cop born and raised in one of the most dangerous sectors of DC.”

The series will dive deeply into the four quadrants of Washington DC, highlighting the police bureaus and how each one is affected by others’ actions, whether it’s a clash over money, sex, or race.

Who else is involved?

Brown will executive produce with his own company, Indian Meadows Productions. Studio Dragon is also connected since it owns the format rights.

This is a series that is putting everything it can into succeeding. The Wire‘s Chris Collins will also executive produce with Brown. Danielle Reardon, Jinnie Choi, and Ji-Won Park are also involved. Noh Hee-kyung, who wrote the original series, is also on the script as co-producer.
