Does the full-season order mean Nancy Drew will be renewed?
Nancy Drew Season 1 has scored a full-season order from The CW. Does this bode well for the future? Does it mean a second season renewal is coming?
The CW handed Nancy Drew a full-season order for the first season. For some, this may be a surprise. After all, the ratings haven’t been all that stellar compared to other CW shows. Yet, the full-season order offers some hope for the future of the murder mystery crime drama.
Despite ratings on the lower end of the scale, Nancy Drew is performing better than its freshman counterpart last season in terms of total audience. All American didn’t pick up the ratings until it went to Netflix and was the only freshman fall show not to land a second season when Charmed and Legacies did.

Nancy Drew‘s live ratings have sat at an average of 0.869 million in the total audience and a 0.18 rating in the demo after four episodes, according to TV Series Finale. It’s sitting in third from bottom among all CW shows when looking at the total audience. However, it’s second from bottom just ahead of Dynasty when looking at the demo.
The CW clearly isn’t worried. There’s one big reason for that. Nancy Drew is a CBS show, which means that it gets a little more leeway than Warner Bros. shows or shows from other production companies because they’re cheaper to gain. And The CW viewers tend to watch through delayed viewing, with the ratings for TVLineour 19-year-old detective swelling an impressive 114%, according to .
Plus, the show is heading to CBS All Access after the full-season run, which could help to boost the ratings. We’ve already seen how Netflix can save CW shows, so CBS All Access could do the same.
On top of that, The CW’s shows are always on the lower end of the scale. Handing out a full-season order right now is a great sign for a renewal. This wasn’t an extra three episodes but an extra nine episodes to take the full season count to 22. It’s a huge hurdle to overcome.
It’s a good sign that a second season of Nancy Drew is coming. We’ll have to wait for sometime between January and April for The CW to make the decision.
