Chicago PD Season 7 has brought pregnancy into the story. While Burgess questioned what to do, Ruzek showed maturity in just being there.

Chicago PD made it clear in the trailer for Season 7, Episode 8 that Burgess is pregnant. She’s only about four weeks on, which gives her plenty of time to make a few decisions. One of those thoughts was to have an abortion. What did Ruzek do? Well, he actually supported her.

This season, we’ve already had the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy see a man purely support a woman’s choice. Link made it clear that it would be up to Amelia what she chose to do, and he’d stand by her either way. Now it was Chicago PD‘s turn to do that.

While Ruzek and Burgess didn’t have the chat that Link and Amelia did (Burzek were constantly interrupted, of course), Ruzek still showed maturity and understanding. As Burgess tried to figure out what to do—or even just what she wanted—Ruzek just offered support. Whether she chose to have an abortion or have the baby, Ruzek made it clear that he would stand by her.

We need more men like that around. The ones who will just be there. Sure, this is his baby too, but he’s not the one that has to carry the baby for nine months. He’s not the one who will be expected to take time off from his career to raise the baby. In fact, his career won’t even suffer from it. Until then, at this point, it has to be a woman’s decision. They can talk, but in the end, the woman gets the final say.

At no point did Ruzek even try to share his opinion. You could tell that he was somewhat disappointed by the idea of Burgess making an appointment for an abortion. There was this look of uncertainty, almost like this was his chance to be a father and he wasn’t sure if he wanted that chance to slip by. Yet, he knew that this wasn’t a decision for him to make. While it’s his child, he and Burgess aren’t together.

Then there was the moment Burgess said that she canceled the appointment. There was a look of happiness and hope. What does it mean for Burzek? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Will Burgess go through with the pregnancy? That’s not clear, but what is clear is that Ruzek is a standup guy and this episode made me love him even more than I already do.

Next. Chicago PD needs to give Atwater something more to do!. dark
