Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI are crossing over in January. Here’s everything we know about it so far, including who’s involved and when it will happen.
There’s a CBS crossover event coming. January will see the team from Hawaii Five-0 head into another of its reboot shows. Rather than MacGyver, it’s going to be Magnum PI, and here’s all we know about it so far.
It’s not all that surprising the crossover is happening. The two shows are filmed and set in Hawaii, allowing for easy access to crossing over. Think of it very much like all three One Chicago shows routinely crossing over.

There was hope that the Hawaii-based shows would crossover sometime during the 2018-2019 season but timing didn’t allow it—and it would have been harder on fans since the two shows aired on different nights.
With both shows airing on Fridays, it’s possible to turn this into a two-hour movie event. It’s much more enjoyable for all.

When will it happen?
TVLine reports that the two-hour crossover event is going to happen on Jan. 3, 2020. It will start at 8/7c with Hawaii Five-0 and then lead into the next hour with Magnum PI. This is going to be the midseason premiere of both shows, meaning there’s going to be about a month of Magnum PI before it takes a break to make way for MacGyver Season 4 to premiere.
Filming for the Magnum half of the crossover is already finished. The Hawaii Five-0 team is currently partway through the filming of their half.
Who is involved?
This will involve a large team for the two episodes. The entire Five-0 team will join Magnum, Higgins, TC, and Rick for the first hour. In the second hour, McGarrett and some of the others will step back. Junior. Tani, and Quinn are the three heading into the second hour of the crossover. That will certainly help to keep this cast more manageable.
Unlike the Chicago crossovers that end up with just a sprinkling of the other shows in each hour, this sounds like a real crossover. If Magnum PI wasn’t already on the air, it sounds like it could have made an excellent backdoor pilot episode.
This isn’t the first time that Five-0 characters have shown up in Magnum. Over the last year, we’ve seen the odd assist happen. But this is the first time for a full crossover.
What’s it going to be about?
Right now, we don’t have answers to that. We’ll have to wait to find out why the two teams will have to come together for the midseason premiere.
