FOX is about to give viewers a new show to love starring Stephen Dorff. And if you love American Western procedurals, then Deputy is the show for you.

There is a new procedural drama heading to FOX in January, and if you love American Westerns, then you won’t want to miss Deputy starring Stephen Dorff. While this series might be reminiscent of a classic western in many ways, it is still a modern-day drama revolving around the police, and specifically, a man thrust into a role that he never expected to have.

So what do we really know about Deputy? Actually quite a bit considering the series is not set to premiere until Jan. 2.

More from TV Crime Dramas

Along with Dorff, who will be playing Deputy Bill Hollister, the cast includes Yara Martinez as Dr. Paula Reyes, Hollister’s wife. Then there is Brian Van Holt, Siena Goines, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Shane Paul McGhie, Mark Moses, and Karrueche Tran. (And while we know the character names for each of these actors, we don’t really know the role they will end up playing in the show.)

At this point, FOX has ordered 13 episodes for the first season of Deputy, although there is always a chance that more episodes will be added if the series is well-received by audiences.

Moving on to the plot of the series, according to Meaww, the death of the LA County Sheriff leads to a shocking reveal as an obscure law puts an unlikely person in charge. A law created back during the Wild West leads to a fifth-generation Deputy being thrust into a leadership role. While he might be a lot more comfortable taking down the bad guys, it looks like he might have to learn how to deal with politics too.

No matter what the Deputy’s role is, he has a job to do, and with his team of skilled and ambitious individuals, they plan to make sure that justice can be served.

Based on the trailer released by FOX as early as May of 2019, Deputy is set to be a modern-day Western with as much action as there is heart. And the fact that Stephen Dorff seems like the perfect embodiment of a wild west lawman makes this show feel like the greatest crime drama to premiere on television in quite some time.
