Prodigal Son is the choice of TV crime drama for New Year’s Resolutions for Day 6. It’s all about Dani and JT’s development on the new series.

Day 6 of our New Year’s Resolutions is all about Prodigal Son. The freshman series has certainly been one of the hottest of the 2019-2020 season, but it’s in no way perfect. We’ve had plenty of focus on Tom Payne’s Malcolm Bright/Whitly, but it’s time for focus on others.

Are you ready to delve into the latest New Year’s Resolutions that need to be made? Here’s the single one for this series.

The show: Prodigal Son

The resolution: More focus on Dani and JT

Why it needs to be made: Prodigal Son started off about a man who has to face his father’s past. In a way, it’s his own past, too. He needs to piece together events from his childhood, events that are causing sleepless nights and PTSD.

While it was obvious the majority of the development would be on Malcolm and the Whitly family, it doesn’t mean it should stop there. We have multiple regulars who deserve more development.

Gil has received some. It’s not a lot but it’s enough for now. Plus, with his direct connection to the Whitly family, it’s much easier to bring more development for him in the future. It’s Dani and JT that need more.

So far, we’ve learned very little about them. We’ve had one or two episodes focused on the two partners in law enforcement, but most of the time, they’re there to pass judgment on Malcolm’s quirky personality traits. JT, for example, is used more for comedic relief than anything else.

It’s time to change that. While the next episode is bound to be mostly about Malcolm considering he’s been abducted, the rest of the season needs to offer more development for Dani and JT. It’s not like there isn’t enough time with the series quickly landing a full-season order.

We got the chance to meet JT’s wife in one episode. I’d love to see more of his family life, as well as his past in law enforcement. While we’ve seen Dani’s past in narcotics, we’ve seen nothing of her personal life. That’s something to open up on in the coming episodes.

Sadly, side characters are often ignored in TV crime dramas. All the focus is on the initial characters that draw you in, and in this case, it’s the Whitly family and Gil. Hopefully, Prodigal Son can break away from the norm like it already has with an intriguing premise and slow development of clues.

The writers have already proven to be great for the storytelling of the main characters. There’s plenty of hope for Dani and JT.
