There are a lot of characters we’d love to see return to Criminal Minds for the final season. Diana Reid is one that now needs to remain off-screen.

With Criminal Minds coming to an end, there are a lot of characters we’d love to see again. Diana Reid was certainly one of those, and we got that wish in the second episode of the season. While the writing and filming is already completed, there’s one thing I hope we don’t see in the remaining episodes: Another return.

Here’s a look at the second Criminal Minds New Year’s Resolution for 2020. I know at first you’ll wonder why I’ve said I don’t want her to return, but I think many might agree with me when they hear my reasoning.

The show: Criminal Minds

The resolution: Keep Diana Reid off-screen for the final episodes

Why it needs to be made: I love Diana Reid. I love Jane Lynch as an actress. And seeing the development of the character and how it’s affected Spencer Reid in the series has been excellent throughout the years. However, it’s time to keep her off the screen now.

Diana returned in Episode 2, after Spencer got a phone call to say that she was in a period of lucidity. Suffering from Alzheimer’s is difficult, and it’s been tough for Spencer. So, he was quick to take up the chance to speak to her mom while she had full cognitive abilities.

And it was a beautiful storyline for him. He had the chance to have a meaningful conversation, hear some secrets from her, and gain some advice. These are all things that he’s needed for so long. And in a way, so has Diana. The two have been all each other have had for so long, so to see them get this chance before the end of the series was beautiful.

It’s because of this that Diana shouldn’t return. Let us remember the character as this kind mother offering advice to her son. Let it be one of love and happiness, even if there was a bittersweet element to it knowing that her lucidity wasn’t forever.

I hope that this was the goodbye to the character. The next time we hear about Diana on Criminal Minds is that she’s passed away peacefully in her sleep. Or that she passed away peacefully while Spencer was visiting her off-screen. Or maybe we don’t have to hear any of that.

Depending on how Spencer’s storyline ends on Criminal Minds, there’s the option to leave Diana alive in the care home. Have it so that we know Spencer will continue to visit after the show comes to an end.

We need some positive memories of characters. Spencer needs positive memories of his mother. Allow this to be the case for Diana.
