LA has a new Chief of Police and it’s a woman. Tommy premieres on Feb. 6, and here’s everything you can expect based on the synopsis.

Are you ready for the Tommy series premiere? It will air on Feb. 6 on CBS, and you know that this is one to watch for strong women who are willing to do what it takes to get the job done. But what can you expect based on the synopsis?

To be honest, the synopsis for Tommy Season 1, Episode 1 doesn’t give too much away. It basically tells you everything that the promo does: the new Chief of Police for LA is female and she’s stepping into office.

That’s the who focus of the series to begin with. Abigail Thomas, who prefers the nickname Tommy, is stepping into the LA office after working up the ranks in the NYPD. That would naturally lead to some pushback if she was a man, but she’s a woman and the first woman to take this position. Not all of LA is going to be on board, despite how liberal the state of California and the city are.

But she’s willing to do what it takes, knowing that if she messes up, then it will be 20 years before another woman gets to do the job. After all, if a man fails, it’s all on that one man. If a woman fails at a male-dominated role, she speaks for all women. It’s pretty standard for today’s world, but I won’t get into that debate.

That being said, this episode is about meeting the characters. Remember, it’s not an episode made for us but made for the network bosses. The second episode is made for us. Expect a semi-contained story that ends with something to push us into the rest of the season. Mostly, expect to meet Edie Falco’s Tommy, Michael Chernus’ Ken, Olivia Lucy Phillip’s Kate, Adelaide Clemens’ Blake, and many more of the main characters.

Here’s the synopsis for Tommy to make sure you’re ready for the series premiere:

"Tommy becomes the first female police chief of Los Angeles."
