Bosch has been renewed for season 7, but Bosch season 7 will also be the Titus Welliver crime drama’s last on Amazon Prime Video.

Fans of Bosch have good news and bad news—Amazon Prime Video has renewed the series for another season, yet Bosch season 7 is also going to be the final season.

The streamer made the announcement today, so that fans effectively have two seasons to look forward to. Bosch season 6 is scheduled to premiere in April 2020 and the final season will follow sometime after that.

The silver lining is that the announcement means the show is ending with plenty of advance notice, for both fans and the creative team. “I am happy that we’ll be able to go out the way we want to,” author Michael Connelly said, per Deadline.

Connelly, on whose Harry Bosch novels the series is based, also revealed that he will co-write the eventual series finale with showrunner Eric Overmyer.

When the show does end, it will have left its mark not only on Amazon, but when it comes to the TV crime drama genre as well. Bosch is the longest-running original series on Amazon Prime Video and one of the streamer’s first, helping to put Prime Video on the map as a TV destination.

It also set a new standard for novel-to-series TV adaptations, bolstered largely by the impeccable performance of Titus Welliver (Deadwood, Law & Order: SVU) in the title role. It’s one of the best roles of Welliver’s already impressive career.

But he wasn’t alone, either: the impressive list of actors that have come through the show over the first five seasons includes Lance Reddick (The Wire), Sarah Clarke and Annie Wersching (24), Shawn Hatosy (Animal Kingdom, Southland) and C. Thomas Howell (Criminal Minds), just to name a few.

The show has always been impeccably cast, with great writing that truly evokes the feel of both Los Angeles and a great mystery novel. With Connelly’s close involvement in the project, the TV series preserved what’s been wonderful about his books, while developing enough to grow on its own and not just reiterate his existing work. Seven seasons is a long time for any show, and more than enough time to craft a satisfying ending.

While Bosch season 6 doesn’t have a trailer yet, below is the trailer for season 5, which is the latest available season. You can stream the fifth season in its entirety now. It’s fairly certain that the next two seasons will be as big, if not bigger, than this—and we can’t wait to see how it all ends.
