TV crime dramas to watch this week: March 2 to March 8
Which TV crime dramas should you watch this week? SWAT and Stumptown lead our picks for the week of March 2 to March 8, 2020.
With so many TV crime dramas on the air, which ones should you watch and which ones can you skip? Our weekly watchlist will tell you which crime dramas are worth your time this week.
The week of March 2 has some more preemptions, as Tuesday is “Super Tuesday,” aka election day in the political world. But there are still quite a few crime shows and mysteries on the airwaves so that fans can get their fix.
Here’s what to watch in TV crime dramas this week, along with previews where available:

SWAT gets personal
Hondo’s (Shemar Moore) personal life will once again be a thorn in his side in the March 4 episode of SWAT. In “Animus,” the team leader comes to a turning point in his latest relationship with Nichelle (guest star Rochelle Aytes, Mistresses).
Is it just a coincidence that “Animus” also includes a return appearance by Hondo’s previous ex-girlfriend, attorney Nia Wells (Nikiva Dionne)? This episode of the CBS crime drama could be very awkward, and that’s before KTLA reporter Courtney Friel also pops up as a talking head who is supposed to do a story with Chris (Lina Esco).
Stumptown digs into Dex’s past
Also on Wednesday, ABC‘s Stumptown is getting more into Dex Parios’s (Cobie Smulders) history, and it’s not another messy story about her ridiculous personal life. In “All Quiet on the Dextern Front,” this quirky TV crime drama is getting serious about Dex’s military service.
The episode involves Dex taking on a case that reminds her of her time in Afghanistan, to the point where she experiences uncomfortable flashbacks. She may also finally make peace with the death of her former boyfriend, and Sue Lynn’s (Tantoo Cardinal) son, Benny.
After so much time in this first season has been spent on Dex’s ill-fated flings, like that weird story with Grey’s (Jake Johnson) scheming girlfriend, it’ll be good to see Stumptown get serious and give Smulders something to really sink her teeth into. She’s as good at drama as she is with comedy, and it’s time to see an episode with a bit more depth.
MacGyver has a Battlestar moment
Battlestar Galactica‘s James Callis is the featured guest star in the March 6 episode of MacGyver. In “Soccer + Desi + Merchant + Titan,” the CBS drama casts Callis as a character known only as Merchant when Desi (Levy Tran) enters the world of soccer match-fixing. That doesn’t sound like a nail-biting premise, but the presence of Callis will make this episode an immediate must-watch.
TV fans know from his work as Gaius Baltar on Battlestar how much screen presence Callis has; it’ll just be a question of how much screen time he gets and with whom. Will his scenes just be with Tran, since Desi is undercover? Or could we possibly enjoy him playing off Meredith Eaton, or the awesomeness that would happen if Callis was in scenes with Henry Ian Cusick? Watch MacGyver on Friday and find out.
