Prodigal Son: What is Eve’s connection to the box?
All season long, we’ve wondered who the Girl in the Box is. Prodigal Son is about to give us answers, along with Eve’s connection to her.
From the beginning of Prodigal Son, we’ve wondered about the Girl in the Box. At first, there were questions whether the girl was real or a figment of Malcolm’s imagination. Now we know she was real, there’s a chance Eve has a connection to her. Is it time to find out that connection?
We’ve known for a while that Eve must have some sort of connection. However, that was more of a gut feeling knowing how TV shows play out. It just seemed odd that Eve had connected herself to Jessica Whitly so much. We only really got the confirmation that Eve has some sort of connection from Episode 16.
At the end of “The Job,” Jessica headed to the Whitly home to offer Jessica help to find the 24th victim of The Surgeon. She only found out about the Girl in the Box in the basement because of Malcolm, who doesn’t seem to find anything odd about Eve. To be honest, she’s hidden her true intentions well. It was only at the end of the episode when she found the box and climbed into it that we know she definitely has some sort of connection.
Why hasn’t she searched for answers before this?
This seems to be the first time Eve has really shown an interest in the Girl in the Box. So, why has she suddenly started searching for answers?

It’s possible that she never really had answers before. However, hearing about the Girl in the Box and finding out that there was a 24th victim of The Surgeon never found may have led to Eve being suspicious of things.
Hearing Malcolm’s story and then finding the box could confirm her suspicions. After all, she would have been about Malcolm’s age, if not younger, at the time of The Surgeon’s arrest. Her memory would be hazy, based on reports from the day, stories she would have heard if people wanted to talk, and any research she’s done since.

Sister? Daughter? Friend?
So, who is Eve on Prodigal Son? How is she connected to the Girl in the Box? Considering her age and the glimpses we’ve seen of the girl from Malcolm’s memory, she can’t be the actual girl. However, there are similar hair color and features to the woman we saw in Martin Whitly’s coma nightmare.
Eve is likely some sort of family member. I’m going with daughter.
During Martin’s nightmare, we found out that she had sprained her ankle and she was going to call someone. That someone was likely her husband or partner, or maybe it was someone babysitting her child. Her daughter is now all grown up and has always wondered what happened to her mom.
When she went into the basement, she climbed into the box. She wanted to feel exactly what the Girl in the Box felt. It’s clear that she has some sort of personal connection and I can’t wait to find out what that is.
