TV crime drama fans can buy the Bones complete series set on iTunes, getting all 12 seasons of the Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz show for under $50.

Bones fans can now own the entire FOX series digitally for just $39.99, as part of an ongoing iTunes sale of TV box sets. The sale is for a limited time only and can be found here.

One of the longer-running TV crime dramas, Bones was based on the novels of Kathy Reichs, starring Emily Deschanel (Animal Kingdom) as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan.

David Boreanaz (SEAL Team) co-starred as FBI agent Seeley Booth, Brennan’s partner in crime-solving who eventually became her love interest and the father of her child.

With 12 seasons included in the box set, that boils down to about $3.33 a season, which is an absolute steal for high-definition TV downloads—especially since the show was on network TV, so seasons were longer. The shortest season is 12 episodes, while others contained as many as 26!

Other than CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Bones is probably the best-known TV crime drama that focuses on forensics. It centered on Dr. Brennan and her team at the Jeffersonian Institute as they utilized their scientific skills to help Booth and the FBI solve various crimes, all of which were referenced through unique titles like “The Graft in the Girl.”

The main cast also included Tamara Taylor, Michaela Conlin, T.J. Thyne, John Francis Daley, Eric Milligan, and in the first season, Jonathan Adams.

Over almost 250 episodes, the show attracted a number of well-known guest stars and recurring players. Current FBI star John Boyd played a junior FBI agent in seasons 10-12, while some of the guests included Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), Brendan Fehr (The Night Shift), and Stephen Fry.

It also spawned a short-lived spinoff, The Finder, which lasted only one season.

With crime drama enthusiasts looking for shows to watch or re-watch during this erratic time of premature season finales and preemptions, Bones: The Complete Series will interest anyone who wants to dive back into the series or anybody who’d considered checking it out but perhaps didn’t get around to it or didn’t watch it regularly.

The X-Files-esque chemistry between Brennan and Booth will hook fans who like their crime shows with a romantic subplot (there’s plenty of “will they or won’t they” involved), while the various crimes are so quirky that they’ll sustain viewers’ interest long-term.

While the series gets a little muddled when it digs into the characters’ messy family lives, it’s overall a solid show that had an enthusiastic fan following for over a decade, and the iTunes set gives anyone the option to download it to either their computer or phone for streaming if you don’t want to wait for TNT’s broadcast reruns.

12 seasons is a lot of television, at about $0.15 per episode, and although there are no special features included the price will sway some viewers regardless.
