LA’s Finest is heading back to FOX, as the Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union-led Bad Boys spinoff will broadcast its first season on the network this fall.

LA’s Finest will air on FOX after all—the Bad Boys spinoff starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba will have its network television premiere on the network this fall.

FOX originally passed on the TV crime drama, which sees Union reprising her Syd Burnett character from the Bad Boys franchise, now as a Los Angeles detective. Spectrum then picked it up for their Spectrum Originals brand, where it’s become a modest hit.

But now the two sides have reached an agreement where FOX can show LA’s Finest season 1, thus opening the show up to a much wider audience, while Spectrum prepares to premiere season 2.

It’s a win-win situation for everyone. FOX gets to fill space on its fall TV schedule in a year where current events decimated pilot season, and Spectrum gets the chance to showcase one of its original series so that they might be able to pull in more viewers for season 2.

Here’s how FOX officially described the series in Monday’s press release:

"Paired with a new partner, Nancy McKenna—a working mom with an equally complex history—Syd is forced to confront how her unapologetic lifestyle may be masking a greater personal secret. Taking on the most dangerous criminals in Los Angeles while skirting the rules and speed limits, Syd and Nancy become a force to be reckoned with—on the streets and in each other’s lives."

Aside from Gabrielle Union as Burnett and Jessica Alba as McKenna, LA’s Finest also stars Duane Martin (All of Us) and Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights) as the duo’s co-workers, with Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) playing Nancy’s husband and Ernie Hudson (Law & Order) as Syd’s estranged father.

Laz Alonso (The Mysteries of Laura, Breakout Kings, Southland) has a recurring role as Warren Hendrix, a U.S. Marshal who is a former love interest of Syd’s.

Especially with the renewed interested in the Bad Boys property, LA’s Finest should be a solid pickup for FOX in a very uncertain fall season. It’s more of a fun crime drama than a gritty one, and the two stars provide the show immediate name recognition that should get even casual TV viewers tuning in.

Essentially, the show is the same buddy-cop, frenetic-action idea as Bad Boys, just with Gabrielle Union working with Jessica Alba instead of Will Smith teamed up with Martin Lawrence. But will it be as big a ratings hit for FOX as the last movie was at the box office?
