5 top picks for TV crime dramas this Father’s Day weekend

If your dad is anything like mine, he loves TV crime dramas. It’s something that you may have even come to bond over. Now you’ll want to find a way to continue that bonding this Father’s Day weekend.

Yes, for those who have forgotten, it’s Father’s Day tomorrow. Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten. Quickly grab a season or two of some great TV crime dramas and offer to spend the day with Dear Ol’ Dad.

Here are our five top picks for TV crime dramas with Dad this weekend.

Veronica Mars

Okay, so this is more on the teen side of things, but it’s something to consider watching this weekend. If your dad hasn’t seen Veronica Mars yet, now is a great time to get stuck into it. After all, it’s all on Hulu.

Veronica Mars is a coming-of-age story, but there’s also a detective angle that makes it fun. Veronica helps her dad with his detective agency work, making her more like Nancy Drew than your average teenage girl. One of the things Keith has always done is support and believe her daughter, and sometimes that’s all we need from our dads.

NCIS

More from TV Crime Dramas

Not all our TV crime dramas focus on characters being fathers. Sure, Gibbs is a dad, but he is grieving the loss of his daughter and wife. Many men could seek revenge and then wallow. Gibbs doesn’t do that.

Instead, he’s left his heart open. His team has become his family. Members becoming like children to him. Sometimes we need to be reminded that family isn’t all about blood.

Case Histories

You’re used to seeing Jason Isaacs as a villain, but sometimes, he plays a good guy. That’s the case in Case Histories, where he plays a cop-turned-private detective. While trying to solve various case, he’s also a single dad to Marlee. Her mother, his ex-wife, comes up now and then but for the most part, parenting Marlee is all on him.

At the same time, he’s dealing with grief. His sister died and he’s still not completely over it.

Breaking Bad

Who said all dads had to be good guys? Sometimes, they’re the anti-heroes or even the villains of our stories. That doesn’t mean the TV shows can’t be something to watch.

Breaking Bad is a must. It focuses on a man who is just scared of death. Diagnosed with cancer, Walt realizes that he needs to do something to protect his family. That means Walt needs to become a monster.

Prodigal Son

Again, not all TV dads are good dads. In the case of Prodigal Son, we have a dad who has killed dozens of victims and is now serving life in prison. However, he still wants a relationship with his children.

Sadly, for his son Malcolm, the relationship is damaging. We haven’t really got to see what that relationship is like for his daughter, yet, but we should do in Season 2. This is a great series if you’ve only got time to binge-watch one season this weekend.
