The Girl from Plainville: What we know about the Hulu series so far

What do we know about The Girl from Plainville on Hulu so far?

Elle Fanning is having a great few years. After The Great scored a second season renewal, despite initially being promoted as a limited series, she’s landing a new show on Hulu. She’ll star and executive produce The Girl from Plainville.

This true-crime series will air on Hulu. According to TVLine, it’s based on Jesse Barron’s Esquire article about a controversial case from 2017. Here’s a look at what we know so far.

So far, nothing is known about the release date of the series. The show has only just been picked up, so the writing and pre-production work will need to happen. Then it’s all about filming, which is still somewhat in limbo in the United States.

We’ll probably not see the show until late 2021 at the very earliest, but we’re probably looking at 2022.

It is being promoted as a limited series. Of course, we know that Hulu tends to be open to renewing if a limited series has more story available. There probably won’t be a second season surrounding the main topic. It could turn into an anthology series like USA Network’s Dirty John.

For now, only Fanning is confirmed. She’ll play Michelle Carter, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2017.

We don’t know who will play Conrad Roy III.

One thing we do know is that Fanning will executive produce the series. Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus will be co-showrunners and writers for the series. Brittany Kahan Ward will also serve as an executive producer.

The Girl from Plainville synopsis

What will the series be about? This is the big thing for many.

Right now, we know that it will be focused on Michelle Carter’s story up to her conviction of involuntary manslaughter. It will focus on the texting suicide case, where Carter told her boyfriend to kill himself and he did. This is a chance to understand the events leading up to that, and why her boyfriend took his own life.

We may see the aftermath of the case. Carter appealed all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court, but the case was denied. She has since been released on parole.
