We’ll eventually learn more about the black dog on Coroner Season 1

One question we’ve had since the end of the Coroner series premiere is the meaning of the black dog. We will get some answers, but we’ll have to wait until toward the end of the season.

The black dog appeared after the death of Jenny’s husband. Then it appeared again at the end of the series premiere. Since then, Jenny keeps seeing this same black dog.

More from TV Crime Dramas

We’re thought about the meaning of the black dog. There is plenty of lore where a black dog is a death omen, but what is it about this particular black dog? Is it a sign that Jenny is going to die? Is it some sort of connection to each case to lead Jenny in the right direction? What about a sign of a death close to her that’s still to come?

This black dog was triggered by her husband’s death. That’s the first time she has seen the dog. At least, that’s what we can assume based on her conversation with her therapist. If she’d seen the dog before her husband’s death, she would have probably mentioned is. So, what is this black dog about?

Is the black dog real or imaginary?

Right now, Jenny assumes the black dog is imaginary. It’s an easy assumption to make. After all, she saw the dog at the pool after her husband’s death and then again in her house. There was no way for this dog to get into her house or even into the pool. Nobody else has seen it, and there was no way for it to leave without Jenny helping it out.

So, we can probably assume that this dog is in her head. It’s some sort of omen.

We’ll get our answers soon

We’re only three episodes into Coroner Season 1. There are five more episodes to delve into, and we’re certainly excited about that.

According to showrunner Adrienne Mitchell, we need to keep watching for more clues about the black dog and for eventual answers. It’s not one of those plot points that is just going to be forgotten.

It’s clear the dog means something. Could it unlock a past trauma? Is it possible Jenny’s connection to death is in the past and her husband’s death has just started to unravel her layers?

Jenny is a complicated woman beneath the surface. She’s intriguing but also kind. Yet, there’s something bubbling. Something from her past is threatening to come out, but what is it?
