The Sopranos seasons 1-4 ($9.99)

If you somehow haven’t seen The Sopranos yet, you can pick up the first few seasons of the show on Amazon Video for relatively cheap. The HBO drama was a smash hit when it aired and is still looked at as one of the best TV series of all time—not just one of the great TV crime dramas but great by any standard.

More from TV Crime Dramas

The late James Gandolfini (The Last Castle) and Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) lead an award-winning cast in this mob drama with more twists and turns than a roller coaster.

The show is packed full of great performances from not just the main cast, but guest actors like Robert Patrick (The X-Files, Scorpion), and all the plot twists lead up to perhaps the most controversial ending to a TV show in the modern era.

This is the series that put HBO on the map for original programming and is well worth a watch if it somehow escaped you before (or a re-watch if it’s been a while).

The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ($9.99)

Ryan Murphy ventured into the world of TV crime dramas when he launched American Crime Story, and the first installment of the FX anthology series focused on O.J. Simpson’s infamous double murder trial.

Cuba Gooding Jr. stars as O.J. Simpson, but most of the attention goes to the performance of Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story and Murphy’s new prequel Ratched) as beleaguered prosecutor Marcia Clark and Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) as Simpson’s lead defense attorney Johnnie Cochran. Don’t sleep on This Is Us award winner Sterling K. Brown as Clark’s colleague Christopher Darden, though; he’s equally great in the piece.

The People v. O.J. Simpson might not have been as intense as its successor, American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, but it’s equally as good and in some ways even better. Both won plenty of critical acclaim and awards.

L.A.’s Finest season 1 ($9.99)

If you can’t wait for L.A.’s Finest season 1 to premiere on FOX, or you just want to binge the whole season faster than it’s going to air on TV, you can purchase it on Amazon Video. This offshoot of the Bad Boys film franchise sees Gabrielle Union reprising her role as Syd Burnett. It focuses on her work with the LAPD and a new partner, Nancy McKenna (Jessica Alba), who has a shady past. The show is currently in production on its second season, so this is a good time to catch up.
