Coroner: What really happened to Jenny’s sister Katie?
There seems to be much more to the Katie story on Coroner Season 1
Throughout the whole of Coroner Season 1, we’ve had this black dog show up. We recently learned the dog was Jenny’s dog as a child, and it’s clear there’s a big family secret surrounding it.
During Coroner Season 1, Episode 7, Jenny’s dad revealed a secret he’d been keeping. The dog had killed Katie so he killed the dog. It’s clear that something had happened to Katie at some point, but had the dog actually done something? Was the dog used as a scapegoat?
After all, it’s clear Jenny has a lot of questions. There are memories she’s suppressed over the years, with the memory of her dad taking the dog out to shoot only just coming back recently. In fact, she’d completely suppressed the fact that the dog was hers as a child.
Was Katie killed by a family member?
I don’t want to think that this man with dementia was an abusive father. It doesn’t seem that way considering Jenny mentioned how it was because of her dad and her in-laws that she was able to have a child at 18-19 and go to med school. So, I don’t want to believe that Jenny’s dad was a bad man.

But there’s something that doesn’t sit right with this story. During Coroner Season 1, Episode 7, he said that he’d told Katie not to play on the stairs. He blamed playing on the stairs for the dog killing Katie.
Of course, Katie could have played on the stairs and tripped over the dog. I’m training my dogs to remain at the top of the stairs when anyone is coming down them and only coming down when called because the coast is clear. Dogs get under our feet easily and tripping and falling is possible.
But this seems like a much bigger incident. In a flashback, there was blood everywhere. Her dad tells her that he needs to tell her some sort of secret he’s been holding. Could it be that he was responsible for Katie’s death or that he knows who was?

Jenny is letting the memories out on the Coroner Season 1 finale
In the promo for the Coroner Season 1 finale straight after the episode, we got a hint that we’ll learn the full truth about Katie’s death and how the dog was involved.
She’s going to unlock the memories. They’ll be difficult to accept and could lead to extra trauma, but they may also explain Jenny’s need to help the dead—to tell their story. Maybe she knows deep down what really happened to her sister, and now she’s on a mission to make sure stories like that aren’t covered up.
