Deeks faced the interview process to get into FLETC on NCIS: Los Angeles

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like Deeks will become a full agent on NCIS: Los Angeles. However, he needs to get through the interview for FLETC.

That happened during NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12, Episode 7. It wasn’t an easy interview, with Deeks trying to find out what his friends were saying in their interviews. With the cameras turned off, that wasn’t possible, so he just had to wait it out.

It all ended with the interview with him, and that meant Deeks had to talk about why he wasn’t a team player with the LAPD.

NCIS: Los Angeles brings the dirty cop angle

Many shows are focusing on dirty cops and police brutality right now. This isn’t a new problem, and there are many TV shows that have touched on it in the past. Chicago PD is one of the most common shows to bring up systemic racism storylines (although the show has never really done the topic the justice it should) and SWAT started with racial tensions and the relationship between the Black community and cops.

NCIS: Los Angeles has brought up the topic now and then, but Deeks’s reasons for not being a team player focuses on problems from a long time ago. The show makes it clear that bad cops have always been a problem.

In fact, the show offered a look at what happens when a cop speaks out. It puts jobs and lives in jeopardy, and not many people are willing to do that. Deeks was. He was retaliated against purely because he spoke out about a bad situation.

Does he regret his actions? Only that he didn’t speak out sooner, but he doesn’t regret that he did speak out and gain the retaliation.

At least Deeks was given a chance to share why he looks like he was not a team player. It will likely help to answer questions about inconsistencies when it comes to Deeks’s latest team. After all, there’s no way Sam, Callen, and the others would have had anything bad to say about Deeks.

Deeks will likely become an agent on NCIS: Los Angeles

There are no reasons to think that Deeks won’t become an agent. With TV shows being more honest about police brutality, systemic racism, and institutionalized racism, Deeks’s story is going to be a positive one. It shows that he’s willing to do the right thing even if it means putting his job at risk and making his life hard.

While Martinez said she couldn’t tell Deeks how it went, she has hinted that he’ll get into FLETC. She called him Deeks and he’s Deeks to his friends.

The interviews weren’t all they could be, but I do think that had a lot to do with filming during quarantine. We haven’t seen the characters working in big groups as they usually would, and it has meant some of the scenes not quite what they used to be. As a long-time fan of the series, though, I’m willing to give it a pass this season because of it.

Well, that is as long as we keep Deeks the way he has been this season. He sometimes is a little too much but he can be useful for comedic relief now and then. And when he is focused on the case and on the action, he’s a good man to have around. So, yeah, we need Deeks and there’s nothing to suggest that he won’t become a full agent on NCIS: Los Angeles Season 12.
