Tonight’s episode of All Rise is the one we’ve been waiting all season for.

“Hear My Voice” finally sees Sheriff Wayne McCarthy prosecuted, with Mark Callan (Wilson Bethel) under pressure to get a conviction, Luke Watkins (J. Alex Brinson) determined to make an impact and Judge Lola Carmichael (Simone Missick) smack dab in the middle.

All Rise has been laying pipe for this episode since the middle of season 2, and it combines the two things that make this show wonderful: timely plotlines and incredible cast members.

More from TV Crime Dramas

In addition to the stars, this episode brings back the excellent Louis Herthum (Westworld) as McCarthy, Anne Heche (Chicago PD) as Corrine Cuthbert, Nick Wechsler (Chicago PD) as Pete Rashel, and Ian Anthony Dale (Hawaii Five-0) as Deputy DA Louis Bravo. This hour of TV would be worth it to watch these actors read the phone book.

But “Hear My Voice” will likely reinforce why this show is in a class of its own when it comes to TV crime dramas. It tackles timely issues head-on, making them part of the series universe in a way that’s organic and feels three-dimensional.

Mark and Luke’s dynamic has always been a highlight of the series, but what will it be like in this new way where one of them might be the star witness? How long will the show allow this trial to  be delved into, especially since there are only a few episodes until the finale? There could be all kinds of legal dilemmas and debates, or will this wrap up fairly efficiently like Rashel’s trial did in the middle of season 2?

Plus, will Mark eventually crack under all the pressure? We know this means a lot to him, but he’s had a lot on his shoulders with Rashel, then McCarthy, another reappearance from his dad and the reveal of Amy Quinn’s (Lindsey Gort) previous marriage. Mark wants McCarthy to be convicted badly, and maybe also the solace it might give him, but how far will he go? Especially with Lola on the bench overseeing every move he makes?

It’s all to play for in this episode, which could change or start to change the show in a much bigger way than win or lose.
