I feel like I’m getting more and more confused by some of the details of 911: Nashville. We’re only two episodes in, and I’m already trying to figure out how everyone is related to each other.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911: Nashville season 1, episode 2.
We knew that 911: Nashville was going to be much soapier than the other shows in the 911 universe, and I had no issue with that. In fact, sometimes, we just need a soapy drama to enjoy for the sake of enjoyment, and this show could be that.
The problem is that it’s becoming more convoluted and confusing than it needs to be. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that this was the case with the way Don told Ryan about Blue, and now it’s happened via just one comment.

Are Don and Cammie related in 911: Nashville?
After the water tower save, Cammie checked in with Don, as she was the one who answered the 911 call and connected with them. After a storm rolled in while they were in the middle of a save and the water tower gave way, she knew that there was a potential major emergency situation on their hands.
Don responded to say that everyone was okay, including her nephew. We know that Ryan was in the most danger at the time, but I swear this is the first time we’ve heard that Cammie is Ryan’s aunt. Now I have the question of whether she’s related to Don (or Blythe) by blood, or if she’s just a friend from school that led to her becoming an honorary aunt, and maybe even a godmother.
It’s clear that she is close with the 113. Taylor is an aspiring musician, and the two discuss songs that Taylor is writing. This is a great way to keep the dispatch team connected to the rest of the team, which both other shows have done in the past. But now, we seem to have another direct connection between them, and one that hasn’t been fully surprised.

Connecting Don to multiple women in 911: Nashville
Most of the time, there are various different relationships that form, both platonic and romantic. In 911: Lone Star, Judd had the direct connection to Grace through their marriage, and then Tommy came in during season 2 as a friend, but before that, she didn’t have a connection to the rest of the 126.
In 911, Connie formed the connection with Buck, and then that connection was able to continue as Maddie came into the series due to them being siblings. As time went on, Maddie connected to Chimney, and now the two are married.
Both of these shows allowed us to gradually get to know the various characters and their connections. 911: Nashville has thrown a lot on us in two episodes, and really, it needs to take a breather. Now I want to know who will be related to someone else in the third episode, because it seems like we’ll end up going that way!
Right now, Don is connected to all the women in the show, and this threatens to make it too much about him. It’s something 911: Lone Star suffered from by having everything be about Owen Strand, while 911 has benefited from switching the focus for storylines now and then. It looks like 911: Nashville is going the way of 911: Lone Star, and it’s not a good thing.
911: Nashville airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.
