911 and 911: Nashville land premiere dates and they're later than we'd like

ABC has set the premiere dates, and we have to wait a surprisingly long time for the 911 universe.

There is some disappointing news for those waiting for 911 and the new series 911: Nashville. While the two are still going to arrive in fall 2025, they are arriving much later than we’re used to.

ABC has released the premiere dates for all its fall shows, and yes, TGIT was on the list. 911 season 9 will kick off the night, followed by the new show in the universe, 911: Nashville. Then Grey’s Anatomy will end the night, as it did last season. So, what’s the bad news? We’re not getting any of them until October!

911 and 911: Nashville are held until October 2025

In some terrible news, we’ll have to wait until Thursday, Oct. 16 for the two (well, three when you include Grey’s Anatomy) shows to premiere. This is far later than we’re used to, as the only times fall releases have been so late were when the pandemic caused filming delays and when the writers and actors went on strike at virtually the same time.

ABC usually brings shows back in September, usually toward the end of the month. This gives ABC time to get its Thursday night off the ground before CBS comes in with its, as CBS has started to push its fall premiere dates back to October.

Now the two networks will have big premieres on the same night. Which network will win out? That remains to be seen.

Could a late premiere date be a good thing for the 911 universe?

While it is disappointing to wait, we could see this move work out for the series. ABC is all about consistency, which is why Will Trent and The Rookie are being held for the midseason again. So, it’s possible that the move for holding back 911 and 911: Nashville is for similar reasons.

911 traditionally has shorter seasons compared to other shows, usually around 16 to 18 episodes (ignoring the strike year). So, a delayed start means that the show can push into December a little with episodes. That helps to keep the winter hiatus at a minimum, helping to improve the consistency for the storylines.

It could also be linked to scheduling needs. If 911 and 911: Nashville don’t start filming this month, then they’ll need a little more time to get episodes in the bank ready for a fall start. This delay to the premiere dates could just help with spacing out schedules as many of the 911 actors are busy people!

911 and 911: Nashville will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 16 starting at 8/7c on ABC.
