ABC has become the second network to set fall 2025 premiere dates. There are a few crime dramas on the list, although the two major fan-favorites are being held for the midseason.
Will Trent season 4 and The Rookie season 8 are being held until 2026. Opting for a midseason release is a good thing for the two shows, as we get the consistency of minimal breaks. However, the rest of the crime dramas we’re excited to see will return in fall 2025. Some dates are just later than expected.

High Potential and 911 return
We’re only focusing on the crime dramas in this post, and there are few of them on ABC. The biggest one that is more like a crime dramedy rather than a straight drama is High Potential, and it will premiere as we expected.
High Potential season 2 has landed Tuesday, Sept. 16 as its premiere date. This is the same time of year as the first season, which did bode well for it as so many other shows didn’t return for at least two weeks! CBS is holding its Tuesday night NCIS lineup until the middle of October!
The other crime drama (of sorts) to return is 911. The first responder drama will come back for its ninth season but is kicking TGIT off a little later than normal. We’ll have to wait until the middle of October! This is a surprising move, but it’s likely linked to consistency, as that’s what ABC wants to go for.
It’s not the only delayed show, either. 911: Nashville, the new spinoff in the universe, will return in the middle of October as well. The entire TGIT lineup is delayed until then.

ABC crime drama fall 2025 premiere dates
This list is only for the crime dramas. ABC doesn’t have too many airing in the fall, but the ones that are airing are more then worth checking out.
Tuesday, Sept. 16
10 p.m.: High Potential season 2 premiere
Thursday, Oct. 16
8 p.m.: 911 season 9 premiere
9 p.m.: 911: Nashville series premiere
We’ll likely see a full Tuesday night lineup of crime dramedies in January 2026 when Will Trent and The Rookie return with their new seasons. Just keep in mind that High Potential season 2 is going to be a longer season compared to the first season, and we already have some exciting casting updates, including a potential Roman!
