Amazon has canceled one of its best crime dramas (but sadly, we're not surprised)

When it comes to long delays to decide on the future of a show, we usually know that it’s going to be bad news. That was certainly the case with the cancellation of the latest Prime Video series.

The “bad guys” who help to stop corporate greed and protect those usually forgotten about are not coming back for another run. Amazon has decided not to renew Leverage: Redemption for a fourth season, and sadly, the news comes after six months of wondering.

Leverage: Redemption showrunner discusses a (lack of) plan for season 4

In some good news, Leverage Redemption didn’t end on a major cliffhanger. While there were certainly a few places for the series to go with its characters, it wasn’t in a way that left us needing more episodes to get some big answers. This was nothing like the cancellations of Found, The Irrational, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

However, it turns out that the Leverage: Redemption showrunner didn’t really know where the series would go in a fourth season, according to TV Insider. The plan hadn’t been put in place, and the idea for that is that the storylines could still then go anywhere based on the events in the world.

Loosely, the idea was that there would be something to do with AI. After all, AI causes environmental damage through sound and power that it drains. There are tech companies that are always going to do what’s right for their investors and stock owners rather than the people they sell to, and our anti-heroes are all about taking from the rich and giving to the poor.

There were a few wishes for characters that they would have loved to see return, including Kari Matchett’s Maggie and Mark Sheppard’s Sterling. They were two important recurring characters on the original Leverage, and it made sense to see where their storylines would have gone in the future.

There’s a finality to the Leverage: Redemption cancellation

It doesn’t sound like there is a plan to shop the series around. Usually, when a show has been abruptly canceled, the studios try to find a new home. We saw that with the likes of Found and Grosse Pointe Garden Society earlier this year.

That’s not been stated with this cancellation. In fact, the interview showrunner John Rogers gave made the entire thing sound like it was done.

This was a show that had already come back from the dead, with Redemption being a revival of the original Leverage. Maybe in a few years we could see another revival happen.

Leverage: Redemption is available to stream in full on Prime Video.
