The Chicago PD season 12 fall finale opened with Intelligence needing to get one of their own back. It turned into something much bigger.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale
At the end of the previous episode, Cook’s cover was made. It didn’t take long for Intelligence to get her back, though. Gloria kicked Cook out of the car, making it clear that she wasn’t to come back to the restaurant.
With that, Gloria knew that it wouldn’t be long before Torres would show up. She wasn’t going to give any information to Torres about the cartel she was working with. She also made it clear that she had enough to bring Torres down. It was mutual destruction.
However, Torres didn’t want to see Gloria put away. He also didn’t want to see her six feet under, which would be the case if Torres didn’t protect Gloria. It turned out that after calling off the drug buy, the head of the cartel no longer trusted Gloria and put out a hit on her.
Did Gloria make it out alive in the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale?
It’s rare that love interests remain alive. It’s also rare that CIs remain alive. However, we have some hope now and then. Maybe some of us had a bit of hope with this episode. Gloria finally trusted Torres and Intelligence, especially when one of her own guys took a deal and turned her in. The only way to get some sort of freedom was to take her own deal.
Gloria could have ignored the cartel member with the gun and allowed him to kill Torres. Instead, she pushed Torres to the ground in a similar way to how he did it earlier in the episode. This time, the two weren’t out of dodge.
After taking down the cartel members, Torres looked back to see that Gloria had been shot. On top of that, there wasn’t an exit wound. That meant some serious internal damage, and with her coughing up blood, it was clear that the Chicago PD season 12 fall finale would end in the way that so many other CI and love interest storylines have gone.
Gloria died in Torres’s arms saying “we’re the same.” It linked back to previous conversations between the two about how they want to be better people but they just get themselves pulled into the bad. There is no escape.
Will Torres and Burgess be arrested in Chicago PD?
Voight tried to cover up the relationship between Torres and Gloria, but it didn’t work. The Deputy Chief was there in Voight’s office at the very end of the episode, and he knew everything. He knew that Torres had the illegal relationship, and he knew that Burgess knew. He also knew that Voight had spent the last two days trying to cover it up.
How did he know all this? I’m sure we’ll start to find out soon. He knew way too much to be guessing.
While Voight didn’t admit to it, he didn’t deny it. He asked Reid what the man was going to do. Why not arrest them all?
Well, Reid wants something else. He wants to be friends with Voight, which suggests that he wants someone to do his dirty work. What will Intelligence be pulled into when Chicago PD returns?
Chicago PD season 12 returns on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up on the series on Peacock.
