New Year, lots of new crime shows! While we always love new releases, we are also committed to some returning stories. All of these shows have guaranteed returns, but some of the release dates are still TBA. We're hoping that sometime in the next 365 days, we'll get the premieres we're waiting for!
Whether you prefer funny, dark, or serious crime dramas, there's something for everyone in the works. You may be waiting half a year or more, but the good news is that you'll have plenty of time to re-watch previous seasons before new episodes return. Also, our first two shows will be back before you know it!

Will Trent season 4
The first crime drama to return to screens this New Year is Will Trent season 4. Season 3 left fans with some pretty serious cliffhangers, and we are ready to finally see how those events will unfold: Amanda, Trent’s boss and mother-figure is in critical condition from being shot, and Angie is pregnant with Dr. McBeau — I mean McDale’s baby! She’s undecided about how to move forward, and Seth is supportive of whatever she chooses to do.
Trent and Marion left things up in the air, but their romance was always kept at arm’s length. Is Will really ready to move on and leave behind his complicated past with Angie? Is Marion willing to accept that Will and Angie will still work closely together?
Then, there’s the medical scare with Ormewood, one of our favorite characters. Ormewood gave player vibes in the first season, but we’ve warmed up to him! He played a solo parent role in season 3, and it seems like this role will continue into season 4, if he survives the brain tumor he’s been diagnosed with. The drama returns January 6th on ABC, and next day on Hulu.

The Night Agent season 3
Next in the winter lineup is The Night Agent, a Netflix original crime drama. Tudum released the season 3 teaser in early December, reminding fans to tune in on Thursday, Feb. 19. We don’t get too much in the way of a plot from the teaser, but we know Gabriel Basso will return as Peter Sutherland, and Suraj Sharma (Life of Pi) joins the cast as a critical part of the top-secret mission. The article also mentions that the location will span from Istanbul, Washington D.C., New York, and the Dominican Republic.
Fans of The Night Agent were riddled with rumors of Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan) not returning for season 3, which were confirmed in mid-September. While Buchanan and producers explained that the reason for the cut was to prevent forcing Rose back into the story if she didn’t fit, they did share a possibility for the return of Rose if, and when it makes sense. Buchanan fans can now watch her in Chief of War on Apple TV, alongside Aquaman star, Jason Momoa.

Ballard season 2
Ballard took us by surprise this year, but it came packed with all of our guilty pleasures: corrupt police departments, FBI action, complicated romances, and organized crime busts. There was little buzz about it since all of the episodes dropped at once, but it was one of the most binge-able shows I’ve watched in a while. I finished the series in just a weekend, and was thrilled to hear about a season 2 renewal.
I have high hopes we will see the story continue in 2026, but there haven’t been significant production updates yet. Season 1 was released in July 2025, so viewers should be on the lookout for Ballard season 2 in the later part of 2026.

Untamed season 2
This psychological thriller and crime drama was a heavy hitter this summer. Netflix released the series in July 2025, and before the renewal announcement, viewers assumed this was a limited series. The show spent at least five weeks in the Top 10 list for shows on Netflix, which is saying a lot, because there was heavy competition this summer; between the final season of Squid Game, the Sandman, Sirens, and the Hunting Wives, Untamed maintained high viewership through the end of summer, Deadline reports.
We weren’t surprised at all to hear about the renewal, but we are looking forward to the season 2 release. According to Show Snob, season 2 will film in Hawaii and tentatively wrap on June 1: could we be looking at a fall or winter 2026 release? It’s possible!

Only Murders in the Building season 6
Unfortunately, we don’t have a release date announcement, but we are ecstatic that the multiple Emmy nominated dramedy was renewed for a sixth season! This season will take us across the pond to London, so we won’t be too upset if production takes longer than anticipated — we want the next season to be well worth the wait!
The podcasters are officially big-time celebrities at this point in the show, so there is sure to be some growth in their investigative reach and capabilities. The season finale revealed that Tina Fey will return to cast, though her character is in a most undesirable position, being the next victim of the murder mystery. Stay tuned in 2026 for more Only Murders in the Building season 6 updates, teasers, and announcements!
