It’s almost time for the ball drop, but that doesn’t mean everyone wants to tune in for it. There are other great ways to spend your New Year’s Eve, and one of those is by watching crime dramas.
The great news is that 2025 brought some exciting new crime dramas that you’ve likely slept on. There’s even one that was only released a few days ago, so you’ll want to check it out now that you have a night of peace and nothing else to watch!
Of course, you don’t want a long series. That’s why we’ve put together a list of one-season TV crime dramas. Well, one season for now, as some have already been renewed, or they’re potentially going to be renewed.
The Copenhagen Test
We have to start with the series that has only just arrived. Simu Liu plays an intelligence agent for a government agency who has been hacked. No, not his phone or his computer. His eyes and ears have been hacked, and that means someone knows all these secrets that he was supposed to keep top secret.
So, he has to figure out what to do. Can he prove that he isn’t a traitor? What happens if they leave the hack open? Can he act like he doesn’t know what’s really going on with the hack? It’s a lot for him to think about, especially when he doesn’t even know if he can trust the people around him.
The Copenhagen Test is available to stream in full on Peacock.
Down Cemetery Road
Now, this show has been renewed for a second season, but it’s not here yet. Plus, the first season works well on its own. Down Cemetery Road follows Zoe, a private investigator who is pulled into a conspiracy when there’s a bombing at an apartment building.
Zoe and Sarah, one of the women from the apartment building, need to find and protect a young girl called Dinah. It turns out that people want her for some bigger reason, and they can’t allow harm to come to her. Well, Sarah can’t. Maybe Zoe is only in it for the money, but there are some touching moments throughout the first season.
Down Cemetery Road is available to stream on Apple TV.
The Hunting Wives
Do you want something a little steamier and a little light-hearted? The Hunting Wives is a must-watch. This doesn’t initially seem like a crime drama, but when you throw in the murder mystery that picks up with the two leading women, then you’ll be sold on it.
It all starts with Sophie, who moves to the town of Maple Brook and meets a socialite called Margo. Margo’s whole clique is known as “The Hunting Wives,” but it’s clear that the entire party is full of secrets and obsession. Oh, and there’s the murder of Abby to figure out, and it’s clearly going to be one of the wives.
The Hunting Wives is available to stream on Netflix.
Code of Silence
Rose Ayling-Ellis takes on a leading role in Code of Silence, which has gained praise from the Deaf community for its portrayal of a Deaf lead. One of the great things about Code of Silence is that it highlights some of the issues with lip reading, such as some letters looking similar when spoken.
In this, Rose’s Alison ends up teaming up with the police to help with reading the lips of known criminals. The police can’t get anything on this group, but they know that the group is up to something. However, along the way, Alison starts to fall for a younger member, Liam Barlow. Which side will she choose, and what is Liam really up to?
Code of Silence is available to stream on BritBox.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox
There are some shows that need your full attention because there are a lot of subtitles to read. When you have time throughout New Year’s Eve, you can tune into The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox, which offers Amanda a voice to tell her side of the events — and not just the events that happened the night of Meredith Kercher’s murder.
We get a look at the trial, and the way the police hounded her and psychologically tortured her to get her to “confess.” They’d decided that she was guilty, and it didn’t matter that there was evidence that suggested something else. The entire show focuses on the time from Meredith’s murder to Amanda finally getting to face her accuser after her verdict was fully and officially overturned.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is available to stream on Hulu.
