Down Cemetery Road reaches its fiery conclusion in episode 8, despite how messy episode 7 became, with Downey gone, Zoe's fate uncertain, and Sarah and Dinah escaping Amos just in time. The finale delivers the long-promised showdown between Zoe, Sarah, and those hunting them.
Caution: this post contains SPOILERS from Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 8
Episode 8 of this intense crime drama doesn't leave the audience wondering what happened to Zoe for long, or whether Sarah and Dinah make it out safely. It ties up loose ends, with the government experiment exposed and C facing the consequences.

What happened to Zoe in Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 8
When Sarah reaches Firinn Village, Dinah asks where the 'cross lady' is. Sarah is still shaken up, and begins to tell the child Zoe wasn't that bad — her bark was worse than her bite. Zoe's been standing behind them all this while, enjoying Sarah's maladroit way of expressing herself.
It seems no missile can take Zoe Boehm down. She survived the explosion, even though she's feeling the aftereffects, and had the Puffin Tour captain bring her back to the village. Relieved that Zoe is with them again — and back in charge — Sarah suggests going to the police, but Zoe assures her they'd never believe it.
Sarah, Zoe and Dinah are on the run again, with Amos still chasing after them and Hamza Malik snooping around, waiting for the perfect moment to do what C asked him in episode 7 — finish it.

The good wins (eventually) in Down Cemetery Road season 1 episode 8
Zoe still needs to stay out of sight, with the police after her for the killing of the American couple in episode 6. They get on an empty bus, heading to the train station. But when the driver steps away, Hamza gets behind the wheel. Zoe and Sarah only figure out something's off when they pass a station full of people waiting, and the bus doesn't stop at the train station.
When Zoe confronts the driver — Hamza — he panics. Losing control of the bus, he runs straight into a graveyard. Zoe, Sarah and Dinah nearly make it out, until he fires a warning shot and leads them inside the church. From here, things turn ugly fast. Hamza is too scared to finish the job, so C sends Amos. Amos accepts once C lets him deal with Hamza, too.
Amos throws a hand grenade inside, and Hamza takes the worst blow. The girls manage to hide in the vents beneath the floor, dragging themselves to the exit, while Amos and Hamza have their personal dispute. That gets interrupted when they notice Dinah's already outside. Zoe gets caught behind, and Amos drags her out, while Hamza and Sarah run outside after Dinah.
The women seem to have the upper hand, until the tables flip — Hamza tells Sarah that killing him will mean suffering for her loved ones, while in the church, Amos is squeezing the life out of Zoe. But the bad never wins, right? So, the tables flip once more: Zoe stabs Amos in the eye with the nail Dinah pulled out of a church bench earlier, killing him on the spot. Hamza gets Sarah to put the gun down, but when he pulls the trigger, the gun backfires and blows off his hand.
The ending is poetic: Sarah finds Dinah hidden behind the bus, while Zoe comes out of the church in flames, and they all get out of there in the car Amos stole. Meanwhile, the video Zoe and Wayne discovered is released to the press, Talia denies knowing anything, but C doesn't quite take the fall, switching into the private sector at the very end.
Dinah is off to live with her aunt, while Sarah is reluctant to let either her or Zoe go. Can the lack of a proper goodbye mean there's more to come? Down Cemetery Road has just been renewed for a second season, so there is hope.
