5 FBI: International characters who need their own spinoffs

There have been some excellent FBI: International characters over the seasons, and here are five who need their own spinoffs.
“The Kill Floor” – A member of the Fly Team goes missing as the hunt for Greg Csonka continues in Paris. Meanwhile, Vo’s life hangs in the balance after being shot, on FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Jan. 28 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Over the course of four seasons, we’ve come to know some excellent characters in the FBI: International universe. Some of them need more development now that the series has come to an end, and the best way to do that is through spinoff stories.

This list isn’t just about the main characters we were left with at the end of FBI: International season 4, although some of them will come up. There are characters of the past who need to get more time, as we learn more about their activities after they left the team.

June
“June” – The Fly Team, with the help of their new intel analyst, Special Agent Amanda Tate (new series regular Christina Wolfe), works to clean up the pieces left behind after a massive explosion rocks headquarters and their key suspect slips away, on the third season premiere of FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Feb. 13 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential

Scott Forrester

Luke Kleintank decided to leave FBI: International after three seasons, and his exit storyline was set up in the last two episodes of the third season. We learned that he went dark, and it was up to the Fly Team to figure out where he was. However, they had to work off the grid as they learned that this connected back to Scott’s mom.

It turned out that Scott had managed to get to his mom and set off on a journey on the run. I’d love for an FBI spinoff to pick up with this storyline. How are they living, and what is life like for them on the run? There has to be threats to their safety, and surely Scott thinks about those he left behind for this chance at a relationship with the woman he once believed was a traitor.

A Leader, Not a Tourist
“A Leader, Not a Tourist” – The Fly Team is introduced to Supervisory Special Agent Wesley “Wes” Mitchell (new series regular Jesse Lee Soffer) when his partner is shot in Los Angeles and the suspects flee to Budapest, sending Mitchell overseas, on the fourth season premiere of FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Oct. 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential

Megan “Smitty” Garretson

As the Europol agent for the Fly Team, Smitty’s FBI spinoff could give us a look into the world of this agency. It works differently to those that we’ve seen before, as it focuses on developing the relationships between the FBI and local authorities. It also tackles its own crime issues, so there’s a lot of ground to cover with a Smitty spinoff.

This would also allow the series to continue Smitty’s character development. We got a bit on her personal life throughout FBI: International seasons 3 and 4, with her learning that her biological father isn’t the man who raised her, and that she’s interested in women. These storylines deserved more time to breathe, so a spinoff is the way forward.

Cameron Vo

The end of FBI: International left us with a major question about Vo’s future. Would she be the one to get the promotion, taking her Stateside? This is something that an FBI: International spinoff could explore, allowing us to learn what happened during that future-making call.

If she did end up getting the promotion, the spinoff is a chance for us to see how she performs as a leader. If she didn’t, then we could see her deciding that she’s ready for a change in her career, opting to leave the Fly Team for another adventure.

Glimmers and Ghosts
“Glimmers and Ghosts” – The Fly Team and Smitty reunite with Jaeger (Christiane Paul) in Berlin as they all delve into a case involving an unidentified American who killed an elderly German man who appears to have been a covert asset of the ruthless Stasi in East Germany during the Cold War, on the CBS Original series FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Feb. 14 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Katrin Jaeger

During the first season of the series, Katrin Jaeger was the Europol liaison, but she left the team for a promotion at the end of the season. She did come back into the story for a couple of guest spots, giving us a chance to see her happy in her new role. It would be great to get a look at what that role really entails, though.

An FBI spinoff focusing on Europol offers a look at a different agency. As mentioned with the idea for Smitty, it would open the door for a different type of relationship with local authorities, and different types of crime. We could even have a spinoff led by both Jaeger and Smitty, offering a first for the franchise.

The Other Hard Part
“The Other Hard Part” – When a U.S. ambassador is taken hostage at a TV station in the Netherlands alongside 70 civilians, the Fly Team is forced to work quickly to find out who they’re up against. Meanwhile, Wes works to earn the respect of his new team, on FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Oct. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day

Amanda Tate

Finally, it’s all about Amanda Tate, the loyal tech genius working with the Fly Team. After her entrance at the start of FBI: International season 3, we barely got to know her, and a spinoff is a great way to advance that character. Of course, that should mean seeing more of the Fly Team, so how could a spinoff work?

Well, she could decide to leave the Fly Team, setting this in the slightly near-future, as she works with a different branch of the FBI. Another option is that it’s a prequel series to set up how she joined the FBI and her life with her daughter. Or, she could end up working an undercover op, leading to a one-season spinoff just to offer her character the development she deserves.

FBI: International is available to stream on Paramount+.
