When it comes to underrated freshman dramas, Grosse Pointe Garden Society is one to put on your list. The series airs on Sundays, but it’s on the move to another night and time. Could this help give the show the boost that it deserves.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society is something different in the world of TV crime dramas. It doesn’t give us the traditional “whodunit” storyline. We know who the murderers are. What we don’t know is who they killed. We spend the series trying to figure out who they murdered and why they did it, as well as learning if they can get away with it.
The series isn’t performing that well in its current timeslot, though. It currently airs on Sundays at 10/9c, which is where it will remain for the rest of March. Come April, it’s moving to a different night and time.
When will Grosse Pointe Garden Society move to and why?
NBC hasn’t confirmed the reasoning behind the move, but it is likely a business one. NBC will want to get the eyes on the series, and this late-night Sunday slot isn’t doing that. To be honest, I think many of us thought that the timeslot was a bad one.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society will move to Fridays at 8 p.m. starting from Friday, April 4. This is currently held by Reba McEntire’s Happy’s Place and then a rerun of a comedy show straight after, and it’s proven to be a strong slot for that comedy series. Happy's Place season 1 will come to an end in March, according to TVLine. Can Grosse Pointe Garden Society benefit from it afterward? There is some hope.
Friday nights used to be the Death Slot of TV. A few shows started to prove that wasn’t the case, though. Bones and Supernatural both moved to Fridays due to declining linear ratings only to end up picking up again and moving back out of that timeslot. Blue Bloods and Fire Country have performed well for CBS on Friday nights, and SWAT did see a pick up when it moved to Fridays out of another night just a few years ago.
Sundays have become more of the Death Slot for TV. People don’t want to stay up late, and Sundays have the issue of football season during the fall.
If Grosse Pointe Garden Society can pick up a little on Fridays, it could end up becoming a Friday series next year. After all, NBC will want a Friday night show! It could also be a good option for the midseason. Nothing has been put in the Sunday night slot just yet, so it’s not like NBC wants to test out a different series in that slot, so it does look like NBC wants to give this freshman mystery a chance of survival.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society is still airing on Sundays at 10/9c on NBC.
